Resume Building…and Updating! Ugghh!

So, I have had the same (boring) resume for the past 10 years or so. I simply add to it as time progresses; a new position, a promotion, an award, a training, and so forth.

However, on the flight from Kansas City, I thought long and hard about how times have changed and are changing. I thought about the people I had just met in Kansas City while networking and business card sharing.

And, I thought about my image.

I thought about my array of cardigans and slacks that I wear to work and my standard business cards, and yes, my boring resume.

And, by golly, it clicked! I need some newness!

Since, coming back, I have decided to implement some small changes that will bring some innovation and newness to my (professional) life.

For starters, this resume.

One of the main challenges of resume building is crafting a document that effectively showcases one’s skills and experiences in a concise and clear manner.

Ugghh. I get aggravated just thinking about it. This two-pager is shrinking down to an innovative, eye-catching, says-it-all, one-pager.

I have been scrolling and clicking through templates for days and have finally begun to build something a little spicer, yet still professional.  Hopefully, the next time my resume is needed, it screams, “Heyyy, me, right here!” – In a professional manner, that is!

Next, is the whole business card thing.

I felt great at my training to be prepared enough with several business cards to exchange, however, there were a few times when I wanted to exchange personal contact information and had no personal business cards. Grr. I wasn’t a happy camper. However, it has motivated me to order some personal business cards (again), along with matching stationary.

And, finally, the cardigans.

I love cardigans because they are beautiful and professional, and they simply work for me. But, sheesh, E-V-E-R-Y-D-A-Y! Umm, no. My objective for this Spring and summer is to get out of the cardigans and slacks and experiment more with skirts and dresses.  We’ll see!

Ciao!
