Our First Spring Break Staycation

I must say our first Spring Break Staycation turned out to be pretty amazing!

As I mentioned before in the planning post – there was no large vacation planned and probably won’t be for a while. In the meantime, we still had an awesome time staying right around town (and, close by).

We accomplished almost everything that we set out to do.

Below is a break down of how our staycation went.

The Impromptu Pizza Picnic

In my mind, I envisioned a picnic similar to last year’s, cute and themed family picnic. Only, it was not that. Instead, it was a last minute, impromptu, pizza picnic.  After work one day, I called and ordered a pizza.

While it was getting ready, we went home and I grabbed our picnic stuff that was already ready and waiting including the lawn blanket, plates and napkins, plus some chips and juices.

When the pizza was done, we picked it up and headed to the local park. We laughed, talked, and ate pizza. Once we were done eating, they played a bit and I cleaned up our little mess.

Spring Photos at the Park

On Saturday, we had another impromptu day. I ignored the plan and decided to go to the apple orchard. However, once we arrived, it was closed.

Instead of being bummed out, we headed to a colorful park in town, that just so happened to match their shirt colors and made for amazing Spring photos! You don’t say!

Baskin Robbins Ice Cream Date

After the park, we headed to Baskin Robbins, since they have never eaten there. When the sundaes were gone and their bellies were full, we headed back home for naps.

Yes! Naps! Those were planned.

William M. Staerkel Planetarium at Parkland College

When we got up from naps, we headed to the William M. Staerkel Planetarium and caught the showing of the Zula Patrol!

Tickets for adults are $6. Tickets for children are $5.

Once the show was over, we actually got a chance to do some planet searching and star gazing at the Planetarium! We saw Jupiter, the Big Dipper, and some other constellations.

Pizza Dinner at Old Chicago

As we left, we spotted the sun going down and headed for pizza!

Whew!

It was a long day, but so much fun!

Easter Sunday

Sunday was Easter, so we had a traditional Easter Sunday with food, friends, and family.

Monday Bike Rides

Monday concluded our staycation, so we mostly relaxed aside from their bike rides and watching movies with our DIY Movie Night Concession Stand – complete with working Christmas lights.

Disposable Camera Project and Passports

Finally, the disposable cameras and passports added to the fun of our staycation because the boys loved taking their cameras around getting stickers in their passports for each activity.

Now, I just have to get the cameras developed!

Cheers to our first Spring Break staycation!
