Have You Ever Slept in a Wigwam?

Today, I’m tossing it back on the blog, Wigwam Style!

Okay, Brennon. That’s great, but what are you talking about?

Well, I’m glad you asked!

I’m speaking of the Wigwam Motels that are also known as “Wigwam Villages”.

Wigwam Village #2

These little villages are built in the form of tipis that were built the United States during the 1930s and 1940s. Unfortunately, there are only a few left with one being located in Cave City, Kentucky known as Wigwam Village #2 which was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in March 1988.

We were fortunate enough to spend a little time there when we vacationed in Cave City a few years back.

In addition to the Cave City location there are two other surviving Wigwam Villages, both being located on historic U.S. Route 66 – one in Arizona, and the other in California.

There use to be seven in total.

Rooms are very affordable – affordable as in less than $80 per night. But, it’s best you book your room ahead of time because people really enjoy the experience of staying in a Wigwam. It’s hard to be attracted to the “Western Americana culture” and the motel chains’ deep roots with the iconic Route 66.

Creating Memories

Anywho, one of the most memorable things for me on our visit was the fact that my son was learning about the Wigwam Villages right before we left on vacation, so once we returned, he was able to present to his class about having the actual real life experience of a Wigwam.

Yayy!

Here are a few other things to keep in mind while on your road trip…

  • Take photos and create family moments.
  • Bring your own food and enjoy the recreational area.

Cheers!

I can’t wait to hear about your stay in a Wigwam!
