Coming Soon to Disneyland: New and Exciting Changes

Guest Post Courtesy of EZ Dis Travel Concierge

It’s hard to keep up with Disney these days as they acquire everything that exists and start building new lands around them all; But with nearly everything talked about at 2017’s D23 event currently wrapping up, or well underway, we are all asking, “What’s next?” Disneyland has completed Project Stardust and Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge is officially open. Did you get a chance to check out our opening day Vlog?  Link here. Assuming the new land pays off big, Disney will eventually be revealing a new list of major plans. In the meantime, here is a look at what is new and coming soon to Disneyland Resort.

Superhero Headquarters

We can expect to see the first phase of Marvel Superhero Headquarters opening sometime in 2020. The new immersive land will take guests through the experience of becoming new recruits for Shield. The land takes over the former land dedicated to Pixar’s A Bug’s Life. There will be an exciting new type of attraction featuring Spiderman, as well as a Doctor Strange show and plenty of character interaction. There will even be an Ant Man themed Micro Brewery.

Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway

It was announced only recently that the Mickey Mouse attraction currently in the works over at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Walt Disney World is coming to Disneyland. The ride will open in an undisclosed period of time at Mickey’s Toontown. Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway is a wildly immersive trackless dark ride with new technology that promises to wow guests and let them experience what it feels like to be inside a madcap Mickey Mouse cartoon.

Tale of the Lion King

This Summer a new show arrives to the Palisades Stage in Paradise Gardens Park. The outdoor theater overlooks Pixar Pier in California Adventure and is usually only used for viewing of the nighttime spectacular The Wonderful World of Color. Tale of the Lion King is coming soon to Disneyland Resort for only a few months this summer. It will feature a large cast of storytellers and the award winning music of the Lion King.

Rise of the Resistance

Finally, the Star Wars attraction that didn’t open, Rise of the Resistance, is poised to bring new life and excitement into Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge. It will be an epic multi stage attraction featuring an experience on a Star Destroyer. We know it is coming soon to Disneyland. However, the opening date is still unannounced. It should still open by the end of this year, though. With all that said, here is a sneak peak of the attraction entrance.

Tomorrowland Renovations

Now that Star Wars has a home world in Disneyland, There’s speculation about what the future holds for Tomorrowland. Although there are plenty of rumors and speculation, there have been factual changes taking place. Nothing is certain yet; but Imagineers have been looking into the area. Bob Iger has stated, rather enigmatically, that they will be doing something with Tomorrowland. When shareholder asked in March about the Tomorrowland at Walt Disney World, he said: “…expect that in the years ahead there will be a lot of Tomorrowland Activity.” Considering Imagineers are surveying the Tomorrowland in Disneyland, those changes may come sooner on the west coast.
