Documenting Route 66 with PrestoPhoto

A few years back, I showed how I preserve our travel memories in a post titled, How to Preserve Your Travel Adventure Memories. In that post, I explained how I used PrestoPhoto to create a wall canvas, as well as a small photo book of our Southwestern Tour.

In today’s post however, I’m showing you how I used PrestoPhoto to document our time spent on Route 66: The Mother Road. I’ve been longing to do this for some time now and was finally able to sit down and get it accomplished.

But, first I want to briefly share one of the many things that I appreciate about Presto Photo. The company first began as a travel information company that shared travel images and helpful tips and tools. This is important because they understand how precious family travel memories are.

Anywho, during the course of their travel company they began printing travel books which led them to change their name to PrestoPhoto, Inc. which now offers a variety of ways to print your most precious moments. And for me, many of those moments are travel related memories like our Route 66 adventures featured in this photo book.

PDF Book Printing

I created this portfolio layflat book using PrestoPhoto’s PDF Book Printing. This was my first time creating a photo book using a Word Document. And, believe it or not, it was actually quite simple.

To get started, you simply choose the template you plan to use and download the zip file to your computer. For this project, I used the free Showcase Template with Microsoft Word which was ideal for our Route 66 adventures. This template is also Apple compatible.

From there, you open the document, insert your photos, and add any text that you wish to add into the already formatted template.

As a kind reminder, don’t forget to save your document with its given name.

Once this step is complete. Export your document as a PDF and upload it to PrestoPhoto. After your book has been uploaded, you are then prompted with the option to add text to the spine of the book and choose images for the front and back cover.

That’s pretty much it. After reading through the directions, it didn’t take me long to complete the process, at all. However, I will share with you a very embarrassing part of the process for me.

I kept trying to upload the PDF, not realizing that I had not exported it as a PDF. You must do this step or your photo book will not upload. So, save yourself the hassle and export (save as) a PDF.

Online Book Designer

It is important to know that if you aren’t that tech savvy, have no worries. You can still use PrestoPhoto to create your photo books by using their online book designer which is what I used when creating our 5×7 Southwestern Tour photo book. Either way, you are sure to get a beautiful product.

After the final touches had been submitted, I chose my method of delivery and simply waited for my book to arrive. It arrived within a week, well packaged and intact. When I opened it, I cried because it was more than I expected it to be.

Not only that, but I had never seen our Route 66 images blown up so big and beautiful. Several years of random Route 66 road trips all compressed into this gorgeous photo book to sit on our living room table.

Final Thoughts

This is not my first time using PrestoPhoto and it won’t be my last. I’m just always blown away at the quality of the images. However, if there is one thing that I would recommend for anyone creating a photo book is this. Make sure that you are using quality photos. I couldn’t imagine how hurt I would have been if my images turned out pixelated or blurry.
