January is National Hobby Month | Pregnant Mother Anatomy Jigsaw Puzzle Review

As a mother-to-be in January 2022, I embarked on a journey that transformed not only my body but also my perspective on motherhood. Along this path, I stumbled upon a viral illustration on CNN that depicted a fetus (of color) nestled in a mother’s womb. This image resonated with me a great deal making me feel heard and seen in a way that I hadn’t before.

The search for an image that mirrored my pregnant body proved challenging until I recently discovered the Pregnant Mother Anatomy Jigsaw Puzzle by Genius Games on Amazon which we will further explore in this post.

Pregnant Mother Anatomy Jigsaw Puzzle by Genius Games

First, I must say that I find this 488-piece puzzle extremely fascinating. I appreciate the skin tone of the mother, as well as the comprehensive and detailed representation of the pregnant mother’s anatomy. So much can be learned about the anatomy of the mother and child together through this puzzle.

As I assembled each piece, it not only provided entertainment but also brought back memories of the incredible process my body went through to bring my daughter into the world. I am forever grateful.

Bonding with My Daughter

Working on this puzzle even while my daughter is small is becoming a bonding experience. So far, each day that I have sat down to work on this puzzle at the dining room table, I place her in her highchair beside me, allowing her to witness and even play with a few pieces. While she may not understand it all right now, the puzzle will serve as a valuable educational tool in the future.

Upon reviewing the educational poster that accompanies it, I can say that this is a puzzle that I want to keep around and preserve so that I can share it with my daughter when the time comes to speak about puberty and procreation.

Why? Because this is an entertaining, yet educational way to discuss and explore the different stages of fetal development, from the early weeks to the final moments before birth.

Engaging with this puzzle, whether individually, with me, or alongside friends, as she learns about these topics in school, will enhance her grasp of the information especially if she is a visual learner.

Reflecting on the impact of puzzles on learning, I recall gifting my younger brother a vibrant skull replica puzzle when he was studying to become a nurse.  He expressed immense gratitude, noting how it significantly aided his comprehension and memorization during his medical terminology coursework. Puzzles work on so many levels.

Benefits of Working Through Puzzles

In fact, in a recent post, 7 Unique Hobbies and Interests for 40-Year-old Women, I shared my newfound list of hobbies which included puzzles related to my interests.  From a bit of exploration, I learned the many benefits of working through puzzles, such as improved focus and attention span, and improvements in cognitive skills, critical thinking, and logical reasoning. All of these are great areas to work on and improve upon, especially as we continue to mature.

By the way, did you know that January is National Hobby Month
