Life has definitely been different. I have gone through some of the roughest times over the past month. However, there have been some really great things, as well. While I won’t share everything in this initial post, I’ll begin with some of the lighter topics.
Homeschool
I’ll start with homeschool. We have one more month left and I will be so glad to get this over with. I have learned that I can handle homeschooling for a semester, but one full year is too much for me.
After deciding that virtual learning wasn’t a good fit for us, I decided upon Time4Learning. Time4 Learning is great as the curriculum is built for you and you can supplement as you move throughout the curriculum.
Visit Time4Learning for more information.
In addition to us working through Time4Learning, we have taken some occasional homeschool field trips such as to the American Sign Museum, as my oldest son is studying 2D and 3D art.
Additionally, we have been to the Indiana Medical Museum, the Children’s Museum of Indianapolis and the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center. Not only have enjoyed the time we have spent on these trips, but each trip was created based on something that they were learning in their curriculum.
Speaking of which, feel free to listen to my segment on Will TV, covering why I teach Black History in our home.
Lastly, I have enrolled them in Varsity Tutors. Their sessions are $15 per hour, but well worth it. My oldest son, just finished an Algebra wrap up for 9th and 10th graders. This past week, they both started new sessions for their grade levels; one for math and the other for language arts. The sessions are two days per week for an hour and last approximately six weeks.
What I love about this is that they are in a small online class of six or less with an instructor via Zoom and the boys actually like it.

Vaping
Aside from homeschool, I recently found out my oldest son had been vaping. While he was away out of town, he was able to get access to whatever it was that he had. As I walked in on him, I asked him to explain what he was doing and then I explained that it was unacceptable and how harmful it is to your body. He understood and threw away what he had. I am hoping he doesn’t return to this.
In my efforts to educate him on vaping, I sent him a slidedeck on vaping from Woodburn Press called What You Need to Know About Vaping. While I won’t be attaching the slide deck to this post, I will be posting a follow up post shortly called How Vaping Became a Popular Trend.
Staycation Vibes
Lastly, I’ve been needing to be away from home and in a new environment. Ironically, each stay away or staycation has been in Indianapolis. I love Indianapolis! It’s close to home and always something new and different to do.

Final Thoughts
Well, I think this about sums up some of the lighter topics. In a few days, I’ll continue with some of the heavier topics.
