#39 | Things to Do During a Family No Spending Month

Happy Monday!

Back in March, I wrote a post entitled, “44 Things to Do During a Family No Spending Month” because that’s what we were going through at the time. We were preparing for a big move and the plan was to not spend any unnecessary money.

However, we still wanted to “live our best life”.

Coming up with a list this long offered us plenty of things to do and stay busy without spending money. In addition, memories are made and quality time is spent together as a family.

So, yesterday my son and I randomly tackled #39 from the list in between laundry loads.

#39 Spend a Saturday exploring places in your community that you’ve never been. Take photos and journal the experience.

Although the plan is to not spend any money, I grabbed us small Minute Maid slushies from McDonald’s which was only $3. After grabbing slushies, we headed downtown to explore more of the murals from the Walldogs walking tour.

Although, I have seen all of the wall murals, he has not. So, I showed him the mural painted by children called Wallpups. How cute.

I explained to him who the Walldogs were and the meaning behind the wall murals. He was pretty interested and asked several questions. He even found googly eyes on a dog that I never noticed before.

Walldogs and Wallpups

In August 2010, the Walldogs, a group of sign and mural artists from around the world, returned to downtown Danville and painted 16 murals over the course of four days with a focus on bringing to life Danville’s history and heritage.

The Wallpups mural, however was painted by local children. A year later (in 2011) another childrens mural was painted.

Hot Rod Lincoln

After explaining to him about the Wallpups, he asked if the people who painted these murals were the same ones who “painted Lincoln in the car” – and, and the answer is yes.

The Walldogs (not the children) painted Lincoln in the Lincoln a few streets down from the Wallpups mural.

Well, there you have it!

A cute, inexpensive, and fun way to get out of the house, create memories, and explore your own town.

Is there a place in your town that you would like to explore? Go for it!
