Be Careful of These Beauty Downsides

As people, we all want to look our best and feel beautiful and confident. For example, it may be wearing makeup, doing your hair, or putting on a pretty outfit to make you feel good. However, it’s important to be mindful and not go to the extreme with cosmetic procedures, too much makeup, or over doing your hair.

Going to the extreme with your appearance can sometimes cause things to go wrong – causing temporary, or even permanent consequences to your body.

Surgery Gone Wrong

Did you know that Americans are spending more than ever on plastic surgery to get the looks they want?

That’s right!

From tummy tucks to face lifts, there are a variety of procedures to enhance your appearance. However, while they can produce amazing results, some can have negative consequences.

For example, I considered rhinoplasty (a nose job) at one point because I thought my nose spread a bit far across my face when I smiled. Seriously. But, what I didn’t consider at the time was the possible dangers.

Did you know that rhinoplasty could possibly cause impaired breathing, which could  result in the need for a second surgery?

Another, cosmetic surgery I considered at another point in life was breast implants. Breast implants, as well as other implants can also, sometimes go wrong. This then poses a danger to the person’s body.

And, what’s even worse to consider is this… What if someone isn’t happy with their results?

Therefore, it’s essential to think very carefully about any cosmetic surgery before having it.

Skin Problems Caused By Makeup

For many years, I suffered from acne and didn’t know that one of the causes was from the makeup I was wearing. Millions of women (like myself) wear makeup everyday because it’s often seen as unprofessional if women leave the house without their faces complete, especially if you are going to work.

However, wearing the wrong makeup or wearing it too much can have consequences for your skin. For example, you may notice pimples or acne, or even experience a skin rash from a particular product(s).

Therefore, it’s important to find the right makeup for your skin, clean your makeup brushes often, and allow your skin to breathe sometimes.

Torturing Your Hair

Unfortunately, I am known for wearing my bun – a lot. Of course, I want to wear it down and curled because we all know that styling our hair is another way to feel beautiful. But, let’s be honest, we have to be careful with the hair appliances and products we choose to use in our hair.

For example, dying your hair a lot and using too much hairspray can leave it dry and brittle. Just as well as excessively, using straighteners or curling tongs. These hair appliances can cause damage to your hair and even burn it off.

So, think before the heat and treat your hair kindly so that it stays in good condition.

Effects on Your Self-Esteem

Working on your appearance can have a huge effect on your self-esteem, both positive and negative. When it’s positive, you feel great and it’s boosts your self-esteem. But, what about when it makes you  feel low?

For example, some people feel like they can’t ever leave their house without wearing makeup. This isn’t good for your self-esteem.

In Summary

Finally, it’s important to keep in mind that while putting on makeup, doing your hair, or even having a little cosmetic surgery can help you feel good about yourself; it shouldn’t be the only thing that makes you happy with who you are as a person.

Love yourself. Be gentle with yourself. And, treat yourself kindly.

There’s nothing wrong with making yourself look and feel great, but make sure you’re keeping yourself healthy at the same time.
