5 Things to Know When Cabin Camping with Kids

In the past year, we have not only taken up camping, but cabin camping, as well. And, what I can tell you for certain is that with two, active little boys, cabin camping has turned out to be an amazing and affordable way of traveling and vacationing for us.

Cabin camping is affordable and usually less than a hotel room. In addition, most campgrounds offer plenty recreational activities for families to enjoy. For example, there is normally a playground and/or basketball court – which allows the boys to run off energy and be loud without the worry of disturbing others.

However, if you aren’t prepared for your cabin camping adventure with kids, things could definitely go south. So, it is extremely important to be prepared and plan accordingly. To help you out, I’ve listed 5 quick things you should know when cabin camping with kids.

Things to Know When Cabin Camping with Kids

#1 Arrive with linens, pillows, food, and water.

#2 Plan according to the season. If it is winter, bring a space heater and plenty of blankets. If it is summer, bring in a small fan and plenty of water.

#3 Know what will keep your family entertained. Will you be bringing board games, books, balls, etc. Or, will you be hiking, boating, fishing, etc.?

#4 Research the cabin amenities. Know exactly what comes with your overnight stay. We’ve stayed at cabins that provided pillows and stayed at others that did not. We’ve also stayed in an efficiency cabin with no kitchen or bathroom and others that had all the extras.

#5 Know your responsibilities. For example, at one cabin we stayed in, it wasn’t required to clean out the grill and fire pit, however at another property, it was required that you cleaned up and left the property as it was when you checked in. If not, there was a charge.

Be aware that not knowing your responsibilities can become costly.

Final Thoughts

Cabin camping with kids can be a great time for family fun and bonding. However, if you don’t plan accordingly, things could wind up going south or being a bit more costly than expected. So be mindful, plan ahead, and create some awesome family memories.
