Few people are aware that their skin is the largest organ in their body. The average person has around twenty square meters of the stuff! That’s a lot of skin! So, you really should ensure that you’re taking the best care of it possible, especially with summer around the corner.
It’s time to show some skin!
There are various conditions that can affect your skin and really cause you to be upset and/or disrupt your confidence and self-esteem. While you shouldn’t let societal standards and others’ perceptions of beauty affect you negatively, there are certain things that you can do to remove certain unwanted “blemishes” from your physical appearance.
So, let’s take a moment and look at two common skin blemishes – skin tags and acne – and how to treat them! We want healthy and beautiful skin this summer, right?
Skin Tags
It’s highly likely that you’ve seen a skin tag on someone at some point in your life. They are a relatively common phenomenon. These small, skin-colored growths slightly resemble warts, yet hang from the skin. It almost appears as though someone has pinched and pulled the skin outwards from the body.
They tend to measure between a few millimeters in diameter up to five centimeters in diameter and while they are generally found on the neck, in the armpits, or around the groin, they can appear in various other places on the body.
If you notice that you have developed a skin tag, don’t worry.
While you should always check in with your doctor for the sake of precaution when you notice a significant change or development in your skin, skin tags are not dangerous and shouldn’t cause you any pain or discomfort.
The main consequence of skin tags is their appearance. Some people are bothered by how they look and want them removed. While this is a purely cosmetic procedure, it is possible and can be carried out by medical professionals. You can learn more about this at skintagsgone.com.
Acne
The majority of us will experience a break out of spots at some point or another in our lives. Spots occur when the pores of your skin get blocked and become infected by what is usually harmless bacteria living on the skin’s surface.
So, how do our pores become blocked in the first place?
Well, everyone’s skin is covered in pores and each pore contains a hair (though usually on the face, this hair is too fine to see). Each hair follicle has a gland attached to it (named the sebaceous gland) which produces an oily fluid called sebum. Sebum’s role is to prevent the skin from becoming excessively dry.
However, when your glands produce too much sebum, it mixes with dead skin cells and starts to block your pores. Now, the odd spot isn’t too much hassle, but when you have constant and severe outbreaks, you may be suffering from acne.
There are various treatments for this condition out there. Start out by visiting your doctor and having a consultation where they may be able to suggest further treatments or medications. You should then take a look at the best acne preventing face washes, moisturizers, and makeup products on the market.
In Summary
Summer is right around the corner and it’s time to show some skin. But, don’t be discouraged by skin tags and blemishes. They are just two skin conditions that may affect you at some point in your life but can be dealt with easier when you understand them a little better and to know where to go to seek help.
Cheers to a happy and healthy summer!
