Why I’m Committing to a Healthy Lifestyle and Slow Travel

For as long as I can remember, health has been a central concern in my life—not just for myself but for my family. As an example, diabetes runs in my family, and I’ve seen firsthand how it affects a person’s quality of life. During my first pregnancy and last pregnancy, I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes, and, after my second son, I gained an uncomfortable amount of weight which made walking almost intolerable.

If You Want Something Different, You Have to Do Something Different

During that summer, I did a significant amount of research on why I was constantly switching out my shoes and insoles. Not only did I discover it was due to my hormones and weight, but I also learned about external factors such as the benefits of custom insoles and custom 3D insole printing, the software that enables orthopedics to create custom insoles that are molded to your feet. The entire summer experience was a painful reminder of why I must take my health seriously.

Beyond that, I want to avoid the struggles of being overweight and depressed. I want to feel good, be present for my family, and live the vibrant life that I have planned and envisioned in my lifebook such as enjoying unique travel experiences and empowering others to thrive and create lives that they love.

With this in mind, I have decided to do something different this year. Not only am I committing to a healthy lifestyle, but I am also incorporating my love of travel through a slow travel journey beginning this summer.

Benefits of a Healthy Lifestyle

A healthy lifestyle means nurturing my mind, body, and soul through intentional choices every day. Eating well, exercising regularly, and prioritizing mental health aren’t optional—they’re essential.

That’s why I’m drawn to slow travel as part of this journey. Slow travel isn’t just about seeing new places; it’s about immersing myself in the moment and creating a more mindful and balanced way of living.

The pace of slow travel will allow me to prioritize our overall wellness. From experience, I can tell you that when you’re not rushing from one tourist spot to the next, there’s more time to cook nourishing meals, take long walks in nature, and focus on self-care.

I can explore farmers’ markets for fresh, local produce, hike in beautiful national parks, and take quiet moments to reflect and reset. Slow travel will gift me with the space to cultivate a deeper connection with myself, my family, and the world around me. It’s also an opportunity to step back from the stress of daily life.

Final Thoughts

In summary, slowing down will allow me to reset my priorities, breathe deeply, and let go of unnecessary pressures. I believe that by combining slow travel with a commitment to wellness, I can stay ahead of the health challenges I want to avoid for myself and my family.

Yes, this journey is about me, but it’s also about setting a positive example for my children, showing them the importance of taking care of themselves and embracing life with joy and intention because I honestly believe that living well is the best gift I can give myself—and them.
