Even though this year came with unexpected challenges, I am grateful that I have been able to sustain and make the necessary changes in my life in which I mentioned in my Lifebook Update.
Having a clear plan for my life and putting in the work allowed for me to make a career change, enhance my blog, transition into homeschooling, etc.
With these transformations taking place throughout 2020, I thought it would only make sense to dedicate the remainder of the year on personal development in order to set myself up for success for the coming new year by reading some great books.
Two of the books I have somewhat read through, while the other two are new to me. These four books include Think and Grow Rich, 12 Rules for Life, The Master Key System, and The Power Of the Subconscious Mind.
I learned about three of these books from either The Secret, or through listening to recordings from Bob Proctor, Earl Nightingale, and Napoleon Hill on YouTube.
Think and Grow Rich
I ordered two of the books from Amazon, in which I will link them in this post. However, Think and Grow Rich was gifted to me by my grandmother-in-love. A woman who I used to work with who treated just as if I were her granddaughter.
She would always bring me things that we discussed. One day she came in with Think and Grow Rich and said, I know you keep renting it from the library, so now you don’t have too.
Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill has some of the best information in it. Because it was written so long ago, comprehending some of it from the way it is written can sometimes be a challenge.
If this is a challenge for you, I would recommend watching the series of YouTube videos that are available. I will warn you that the videos are old, so be patient and focus on the information given to you.
There is also a Think and Grow Rich:A Black Choice which puts a unique twist on things for Black people. I started reading this book several years ago and somehow it came up missing.
The Master Key System
The Master Key System on the other hand, I found in a thrift store. I was so excited to have found it because it’s really old and good to read, very similar to Think and Grow Rich. It’s actually what inspired the creation of the book, The Secret.
The Master Key System is a personal development book by Charles F. Haanel that was originally published as a 24-week correspondence course in 1912, and then in book form in 1916.
I felt like I had hit the jackpot when I came across it. I am so thankful for it. I began reading the book a few years ago in the Spring (see Instagram), but I never finished.
But, with the pandemic continuing and the winter about to set it, now is a great time to relax, read these gems, and set myself up for the coming year.
Lastly, instead of taking notes in your book, know that there’s also a PDF that encourages you to write. So, I’ve linked the PDF of the Master Key System here with workbook pages.
The Power of Your Subconscious Mind
The Power of Your Subconscious Mind has been a bestseller since its first publication in 1963, selling many millions of copies since its original publication. This book covers how to identify your subconscious mind and change your thinking to manifest the life you desire.
What I appreciate about this book is that it is written in a way that is very clear to understand. You don’t have to struggle to understand the concepts. It covers how to change your thinking in regards to your ideal mate, creating wealth, healing your body, etc.
As I began to read the book, I honestly thought that I had already read it. It could be a book that I read many years ago, but perhaps wasn’t much invested in it at the time.
Either way, it has given me more tips on how to wire my brain to create more of the life I desire.
12 Rules for Life
12 Rules for Life is another best seller that I intend to read this year. This is not a book that I stumbled across and chose to read. Instead, my younger brother who is in the military began reading it while in boot camp.
When he returned home, he bought the book for himself and encouraged me to read it as soon as possible. So, after flipping through the contents and the book, I decided that I would end this year reading this book.
According to Amazon, “Dr. Peterson journeys broadly, discussing discipline, freedom, adventure and responsibility, distilling the world’s wisdom into 12 practical and profound rules for life. 12 Rules for Life shatters the modern commonplaces of science, faith and human nature, while transforming and ennobling the mind and spirit of its readers.”
Final Thoughts
While these are only four of the books that I have read or plan to read this year, there are many others that I have enjoyed throughout 2020. I’ve listed four more that are dear to my heart that I have written about this year on the blog.
If you choose to read any of these, email me and let me know how you enjoyed them or leave a comment below.
