While some of us are happy enduring budget flights and cramped coach rides, others are willing to spend more in order to travel in luxury conditions. For some, this means going even beyond first-class commercial travel.
Could You Afford These Luxury Forms Of Travel?
Here are just some of the most extravagant and luxurious ways to get around outlined below.
Interrailing with style
One of the most famous luxury trains was the Orient Express. While this is no longer in service, there are many modern luxury train services around the world inspired by this train. This includes the restored Venice Simplon Orient Express, which runs from London to Venice.
On this train you’ll find stylish sleeping cabins, a dining area for fine dining and even a piano bar. A journey on one of these luxury trains often costs several grand per person, which is nowhere near as expensive as some of the other modes of travel on this list, but may still be slightly too excessive for the average person.
Living the high life in a private jet
Private jets give you the option to travel anywhere in the world by air, while enjoying spacious legroom and customized catering. Owning a private jet of course is not cheap, with many costing many millions.
The most expensive private jets on the planet belong to world leaders and are thought to be worth billions, more information of which can be found here. For those that aren’t billionaires, there’s always the option of chartering a private jet, which is essentially like hiring it out – this gives you the experience of having your own jet without the sky-high prices.
Splashing out on a yacht
The most expensive private yachts cost multiples of millions of dollars and come with hand-picked crews and all the lavish mod cons you’d find in a luxury hotel. The ‘Azzam’ is the largest in the world (and thought to be the most expensive) at 590 ft – but there’s already plans to build a bigger superyacht named the Triple Deuce which will be 728 ft long!
Of course, there are more affordable ways to experience a yacht – as with chartering a private jet, it’s possible to hire a yacht. If you don’t mind sharing a smaller and less luxurious yacht, you could enjoy a day trip on the water for no more than $50 per head.

Taking a roadtrip in a luxury motorhome
Roadtrips generally aren’t very luxurious, however in a luxury RV they can be. These are the motorhomes most commonly owned by rock stars who are constantly on the road.
The Marchi Mobile eleMMent Palazzo is worth $3 million and is currently the most expensive in the world – it comes with everything from underfloor heating to a glazed rainfall shower to a retractable Sky Lounge (we’re not even sure what that is).
If this is a little out of your budget, you could always stick to a more cosy but affordable campervan – you’ll find used campervans on Gumtree for less than ten grand! It’s way more glamorous than sleeping in a car.
In Summary
Everyone prefers their own way of travel. Some of us are happy with budget travel while others are willing to spend more in order to travel in luxury conditions such as private jets and luxury motorhomes. The choice is yours.
