With our daughter getting closer to being here, I want to share some behind the scene things that we are working on. So, in today’s post, I’m sharing some of the books that we have intentionally picked out and purchased for her Childhood Home Library.
But, before I begin listing the books, I wanted to share a little bit about my love for books. If you have been around the blog a while, I’m sure you have noticed that I often speak a lot about the books I’m reading. I have a bookcase in the living room, in our bedroom, and recently created a Personal and Professional Development Library in my office at work.
Books! Books! Books!
Books are a great way to learn something new, question and research, and use our imaginations. With this in mind, I especially love books for children. With the boys, we asked for books instead of cards for the baby shower. It was an easy and fun way to get books for them. To this day, we still have some of the ones that resonated most with us.
With this pregnancy, I don’t think we are having a baby shower, instead, we may have a Sip & See afterward, which is pretty much like a baby shower, only the baby is present. After going through the process of losing A’leigh, I look at baby showers a little differently now.
I don’t want people coming, giving congratulations, and spending their money on gifts, not knowing the end result. At a Sip & See, we know that mom and baby are okay and we can celebrate accordingly.
8 Books to Get Started
With all of this in mind, it was best if we went ahead and purchased books we wanted our daughter to have. In fact, I’ve already started reading some of these books to her at night. I’ve also added several more to our Amazon registry for friends and family who are really excited and want to shop for our little ladybug.

Now that we have covered all of that, let’s jump into some of the books that will get her childhood library started.

- Follow Your Dreams, Little One Board book: Vashti Harrison
- A is for Alchemy: Esther Reese
- Ambitious Girl: Meena Harris
- Little Feminist Picture Book: Mudpuppy and Yelena Moroz Alpert
- Be You!: Peter H. Reynolds
Final Thoughts
While these are the first eight books that we’ve gotten started with, I plan to add several more over the coming months. What are your thoughts on building an at-home library for your children?
