Changing the Scope of Travel Blogging by Repurposing

Some time ago, I posted, How to Maintain a Travel Blog. Back then, I was traveling weekly until I pretty much got burned out and had to take a break.

Not long after taking a break from our travel adventures, COVID wreaked havoc on the world. So, the question is, how do you maintain a travel blog when traveling has come to a halt.

Easily. You repurpose.

What is Repurposing Your Content?

In a nutshell, repurposing your content simply means taking one asset (post) and reusing it somewhere else or creating a new post from a different perspective or with a different goal in mind.

For example, when I started writing on News Break, I quickly learned that I could repurpose my content.

Here’s how.

When I began writing on this domain, I began writing as a hobby. I lacked focus for posts, didn’t use keywords, and had no idea what SEO was.

Sometimes, I posted all photos with very little text.

Later, I began briefly telling our stories in each post, however, I lacked important information that people would need to know should they decide to embark on a similar adventure

From there I learned how to add value to posts. With the goal of adding value to readers, I began to take past trips and update them for News Break (follow me there) by including photos that never touched the light of day, as well as informative information for those who want to do the same.

Doing this has not only brought value to my work and helped others, but has allowed me to maintain my work in travel content creation throughout this pandemic. Overall I have grown in my skills and am thankful.

Furthermore, as the world is beginning to slowly open back up, I am offered another opportunity to repurpose my travel content on the blog, which is by revisiting local attractions or places near home where I can make updated posts with new information and new photos.

What I have learned from my experience on News Break is that people who follow me do so because they want me to keep the content coming. This is the same for the blog.

Keep The Content Coming

With this in mind, I’ve learned to not be idle when doing this kind of blogging or you’ll fall behind. Because, if you’re serious about your platform, then you should have no problem focusing in on it.

Remember, the whole point of having a blog or platform is to provide material for viewers to engage with, so get typing away regularly! Having the right content also boosts the score of the site itself, and that’s another thing that you’re after.

Work On The SEO

Lastly, make sure that you get in the habit of practicing good SEO. I’m still working in this, as well as other things.  I’m not perfect, but with each post, I get better.

If you are unfamiliar with SEO. SEO or search engine optimization is the practice of getting your site ranked higher on search engines.

When people Google certain words or phrases, you’ll want them to see your site on the first page. The way you do this is by continually posting good, relevant content and searchable keywords.

Final Thoughts

Well, there you have it. A little bit on how to change the scope of your travel content during slow travels like now.
