Coffee Confessions

As we are ending the month of November, along with Casey’s coffee special, I feel guilty and obligated to give these coffee confessions.

Every morning this month, I have stopped to get coffee from Casey’s prior to heading into work or making myself cozy to blog.

Prior to Casey’s $1 coffee special, I rarely purchased coffee from there. In past years, I would, but I stopped once I started tracking my spending and saw where all of my money was going.

During that month that I tracked all of my expenses, I realized that a large portion of my disposable income was going towards Dollar Tree and morning coffee

You Spend How Much?

I couldn’t believe that someone could spend so much money buying very unnecessary things such as note cards, stickers, and wall signs. In an effort to clean up my finances, I created a new budget and began tracking my expenses better than before.

I got disciplined and stopped buying morning coffees and opted for a $1 box of coffee singles and a $1 bottle of Hazelnut creamer. This one box and bottle of creamer would last me the entire week.

So, instead of spending about $20 a week on coffee in the mornings, I was down to spending only $2 per week. In no time, my budget was under control.

I must say, a little planning goes a long way. If you want to learn more about our budgeting simple search money management here on the blog.

Sadly, I wasn’t able to keep that momentum going this month during Casey’s $1 coffee special. I mean, really… for $1 a customer could have any size cup of coffee. That’s a pretty nice deal to me.

Not only that, but Casey’s introduced a new line of six coffees which included a few of my new favorites such as Java Estate and Hazelnut. Plus, I can have all the cream I want.

Coffee Favorites

The Java Estate is also known as the world’s original coffee blend. It has a sweet combination of fruity Ethiopian Yirgacheffe with a deep body and rich flavor of Java Estates coffees. To me, it’s a very sophisticated flavor.

My other favorite, the Hazelnut also has a sophisticated aromatic brew. It offers an elegant flavor of fresh roasted hazelnuts and a smooth aftertaste to match. To top it off, adding a splash of  Hazelnut creamer just makes it simply delicious and even more enjoyable.

Coffee: An Experience

Seriously, every morning is like a new fancy experience. I waltz through the coffee section, make my $1 coffee or two (being a coffee addict is hard), and use their cute sample cups to try a sample of another flavor that I am not purchasing that day. Please, don’t judge me.

But, now that the special is ending, I simply have to do better. It is now time to reevaluate my behavior and do better as we are ending this year.

So, I will no longer be stopping for the morning coffee. Instead, my plan is to return to what I know works for me, which is purchasing my $1 box of coffee singles and creamer and enjoying it in one of my many amazing coffee mugs or coffee thermos’ properly labeled with my name.

Final Thoughts

However, since I am now accustomed to these new flavors, the transition back to my regular coffee may be a bit unpleasant, so I am considering another alternative; a monthly coffee subscription box.

Nate’s Coffee Subscription Box allows for customers to choose how often they would like their coffee delivered, which can be weekly, semi-monthly, or monthly. Customers can also choose the type of roast they prefer and how much.

While this option may cost more than my $2 per week, it would be less than what I spent this month at Casey’s. So, it’s definitely something to consider.
