On a budget? No problem. With just a handful of items from Dollar Tree you can create a beautiful, Pinterest-worthy bookshelf that will make your daughter’s room extra special for Valentine’s Day.
I see all of the lovely bookshelfies on Pinterest and won’t to constantly recreate them, but sometimes, I don’t want to spend large amounts of money on these seasonal displays. So, with that thought in mind, I decided to make two Valentine’s Day bookshelves for my daughter.
In this post, I am sharing how I created the first one using only items from Dollar Tree. In another post later in the week, I’ll be sharing how I used everything from simply shopping our home and I’ll link all of the books.
Valentine’s Day Bookshelf for Your Little Girl
Now let’s jump into some simple steps to help you create a beautiful bookshelf to show your little one how much you love them, but also help foster a love of reading.
Use a Basic Shelf
First, find a basic shelf or wall-hanging unit to serve as the base of your project from around your home. Choose something that you already have. For us, we have a set of acrylic shelves from Amazon that I like to dress up with books from time to time.
If you don’t already have something at home, you can use a bin, a basket, or even prop your books up against the wall on the table. It’s truly a cost-effective project.
However, if you absolutely must purchase something, and other than shelves, you can always opt for decorative boxes or storage containers to hold all those books.

Choose Your Theme and Colors
Choose colors that match the theme of your project. For this one, it’s Valentine’s Day. Therefore colors like reds and pinks will give it that special touch.
Once you have selected the base for the project, shop your own books and select those that align with your color theme and love. Stock the shelves with books to fill it up and make it look beautiful.
Here’s where Dollar Tree comes in again for the win!
Themed Books
If you don’t have any books, browse Dollar Tree’s Valentine’s section and book section for about 4-6 books that are age appropriate and fit your theme. You can find a wide selection at Dollar Tree such as fairy tales, stories, non-fiction books, activity books, etc.
For this project, I browsed the children’s books section and found a beautiful assortment of pink-themed books.
Side Note | If you do not want to shop for books because you do not want to keep them around, by all means, check out books from your local library and return them once you are done. Or, at least by the due date.
Finishing Touches
Now that you have your base and your main ingredient (the books). It’s now time to add some finishing touches such as bows, flowers, stuffed animals, small toys, dolls, etc. to give the shelf an even more festive look.
Since I wanted the focus to be on the books, I opted for only a strand of pink pom-pom garland, a purple stuffed monster, and a Valentine’s love truck. It’s very simple and for some it would be underwhelming, but keep in mind, you can tailor this however you would like. Remember, it’s your creation for you and your little one to enjoy.
Final Thoughts
So, what do you think? With just a few simple items and a bit of creativity, you can create a Pinterest-worthy bookshelf for your little one. Not only is it affordable and adorable, but it also helps encourage reading at an early age.
