Typically, when I read books, I read for the purpose of self-improvement. So many of the books that I have read can be found on the blog in many of my update posts, “What I’m Doing Now”. However, there are times when I want to read for the pure satisfaction of it; hence, The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks. If you have never seen the movie or read the book, I highly encourage you to do so.
The Notebook 2004
The movie, The Notebook is a 2004 American romantic drama film directed by Nick Cassavetes. Additionally, it was written by Jeremy Leven and Jan Sardi, based on the 1996 novel of the same name by Nicholas Sparks.
The 2004 film stars Ryan Gosling (Noah) and Rachel McAdams (Allie) as a young couple who fall in love in the 1940’s.
When I first watched this movie, it was a romantic film that I fell deeply in love with. I was always curious while watching the movie, wondering what would come next of the relationship between Allie and Noah. With so many twists and turns, it was refreshing to see that in the end, the couple stayed together.
After watching the movie, I knew I wanted to read the book to see if there was anything different in the movie that was in the book. Overall, I felt that they were both very similar.
The Notebook House, Central Plot
Regardless of which you choose to enjoy, whether it be the movie or the book, one thing remains constant; Allie and Noah’s love for one another, as well as one day living in the house together – which is the central plot of the story. The house was an integral part of Allie and Noah’s romance.
If you are unfamiliar with that part of the story, in a nutshell, Allie expresses interest in a house that she desires, however the home would need to be fixed up. After Noah returns home from the war, he goes to work on renovating the house, with hopes that one day him and Allie would be together and share that home together.
Out of nowhere, Allie sees a local newspaper which mentions Noah’s renovations. Allie immediately sets out on a quest to see Noah and the home.
Noah made several renovations to the home all with Allie in mind. Some of the renovations included blue shutters on the white house, the third-story porch was rebuilt, as well as making one of the front rooms the dining room.
Nine renovations can be seen on The Notebook House. These include the following:
- The Blue Shutters
- The Porch
- Staircase
- Dining Room
- Porch Swing
- Allie’s Painting Room
- Master Bedroom
- Structural Renovations
- Landscaping
