In order for us to make it to all of the 50 states within a year – in between school and work, many of our bordering states have been deemed as day trips.
According to Merriam-Webster, a day trip is a journey in which a person goes to visit a place and then returns home on the same day. – Sounds good to me!
Day trips have been an affordable way for us to add a new state to our list of 50 without breaking the bank.
Just think about it for a moment.
With a day trip, you can eat breakfast at home, take a cooler for lunch or grab lunch there, and make it home by dusk to eat dinner at home. This alone cuts down the food budget.
With a day trip, there is no worry of where to stay and shelling out an extra $100 for a room.

5 Steps to Create Your Next Day Trip
- Decide where you want to go, preferably within four hours away.
- Decide what transportation you will use to get there.
- Decide what you will do once you are there. I always recommend using Groupon to cut our travel expenses tremendously for attraction discounts. Also, check the Calendar of Events for that particular city.
- Decide what you will do for meals. Will you be bringing your food or dining at a local restaurant?
- Be safe, have fun, and make memories!
