2020 Year End Review | Quarter 2
April 2020
April eased its way in with some tears because it was the one year anniversary of my dad’s passing. Acknowledging that was not the easiest.
The shut down was still valid and I was still working remotely. Everything was pretty much the same from the previous month. We were just trying to maintain and not go stir crazy.
Aside from some sadness, April did bring some joy and happiness. For example, I gave my first paid blogging webinar on GoToMeeting. It was a magical moment because it was something that I had written in my Lifebook under my career plans. Manifestation was happening and it was joyous.
Aside from that, I was able to hang steady with 12 blog posts, a few collaborations, and the opportunity to interact with the lovely Rebecca Moses (Author and Artist).
Here’s how it happened.
Upon reading her book one day, I decided to look her up on Instagram and tag her in a post. She reached out and asked me to share my Stay Home story because she was also staying home. During her time home, she was listening to stories of women staying home and painting them (The Stay Home Sisters).
THE ABSOLUTE BEST HONOR!
She ended up painting me based on the story I shared and my Instagram feed. The photo was gorgeous and one day I hope to own it and have it hanging in my office.
May 2020
May came with sunnier weather and a few changes. My mom returned home and our house and hearts were left a bit emptier. Summer was beginning and school was ending. However, I had more free time. With the free time, I was able to up my blog posts to 21. Yayy!
I talked more about working from home and also how to liven up your spaces at home. I continue working with Femme Luxe and also began walking daily doing 5K each morning. I felt happy, strong and consistent.
When it comes to exercising, I’m not the most consistent. It comes in phases. I’ll do great for a few months and then I’ll get distracted and stop. I’ll break for a while and then end up starting over months later.
After acknowledging this within myself, I’ve begun to ask myself my “why’s” in everything that I do. Why am I writing this blog post? Why am I exercising? Why do I want these results? Etc. It’s answering the why’s that keeps me going (or not). What’s your why?
As the continued warm weather rolled in I began doing more webinars with work and more podcasts with blogging. I invested in myself and vision by buying a new microphone, new lightning and new work clothes because I knew I wanted to give each presentation and recording my absolute best.
Do you know that if you constantly invest and improve yourself, you make yourself more valuable and less replaceable. Keep that in mind as you work your jobs, businesses and side hustles.
And if you want to hear it from someone more credible than I, consider a few speeches or books by Tony Robbins. As a matter of fact, he just shared this again on a LinkedIn Learning I just watched called Career Advice from Some of the Biggest Names in Business. If you ever get the chance, you may want to check it out.
Anywho, as I continued through my presentations, I constantly visualized my best self and showed up as her each time – no matter how much energy and effort it took. I gave gratitude for each work day and even wrote daily in my journal (scripted) how I wanted the outcome of my work to be.
If you don’t have a journal dedicated to either gratitude or scripting out your ideal life (known as a Book of Positive Aspects) – I would highly recommend setting yourself up for the new year by doing so. I would also recommend a new planner for the new year.
I’m not going to suggest a particular brand or style because it’s important to choose what resonates with you and makes you feel great about it each time you see it and lay your hands on it.
June 2020
June came with lifted restrictions and a more relaxed schedule as the boys were on summer break. Again with more free time, I was able to crank out 18 blog posts with a number of quality collaborations such as with My Smile, Magic Hair Potion and a set of family walkie talkies for camping – just to name a few. The collaborations were a lot of fun.
During the month of June, I was also able to take a quick and responsible trip to the Virginias for family reasons. It was a breath of fresh air literally – after being cooped up in the house for months.
If you choose to travel, please be sure to travel responsibly. For example, if you are driving limit stops, wear masks, bring your own food, drink plenty of water, take your vitamin C, use sanitizer, etc.
Final Thoughts
During this quarter of the year, my confidence and self esteem grew. I stepped outside of my comfort zone and leveled up in multiple ways. Much of it was scary, but I did it anyway and am glad that I did.
My biggest take away would be to invest in yourself, give gratitude for everything daily and script out your days. I promise it will help you envision your ideal life and help you get there a lot sooner than you may think.
Lastly, don’t compare yourself to others. You don’t know their story, their journey, or what the work that they have done to get to where they are. Be you and do what works for you because I’ve learned that comparison is truly the thief of joy.
How did your second quarter go for you?
