4 Experiences for the Dinosaur Lover

Today my son wore a new Jurassic World hoodie and was extremely excited about it. As he played around showing off his new movie hoodie, we talked about all the places we have been – as dinosaur lovers. Immediately, I was inspired to create this post, 4 Experiences for the Dinosaur Lover – for those who have a passion for dinosaurs.

For starters, if you have been around the blog awhile, or scrolled through Our Travels, you may have noticed that there are several dinosaur posts. Yes, that’s right. We kinda have a thing for dinosaurs.

Dinosaur World, Cave City, Kentucky

In September of 2017, we spent about four days exploring Cave City, Kentucky while on fall break. Our very first attraction there was Dinosaur World. We had never been there, so we were unsure of what to expect.

Once we were in, it was pretty amazing! Trekking through Dinosaur World was like walking through an outdoor dinosaur museum with large dinosaur replicas everywhere. It was definitely a fun learning experience.

Moccasin Mountain Dinosaur Tracksite, Arizona – Utah

The following year, in 2018 we headed out on our Southwest Tour where we trekked the Moccasin Mountain Dinosaur Tracksite in Utah locating all size dinosaur tracks.

Moccasin Mountains is an 11-mile-long  mountain range located at the Arizona–Utah border in Mohave County, Arizona, and a small north section in Kane County, Utah.

Dinosaur World, Plant City, Florida

Later that year, we drove down to Plant City, Florida and spent the afternoon at Dinosaur World there. That’s right. Dinosaur World, again. This visit was a bit different because it was during peak season and extremely busier than our visit to Cave City. However, our experiences were similar.

The Field Museum of Natural History, Chicago, Illinois

After being outside learning about dinosaurs, I was ready to come indoors. So, last year on a trip to The Field Museum of Natural History in Chicago, I spent quite a bit of time learning some new dinosaur facts in Sue’s World exhibit.

If you are unfamiliar about the exhibit, here’s a quick one-liner. When fossil hunters discovered Sue the tyrannosaurus rex in 1990 in South Dakota, they found a lot of other remains – which is a lot of the exhibit. There was also a Mass Extinction exhibit, amongst others.

Final Thoughts

While I’ve only shared four experiences, there are so many more. From museums, pop up exhibits, and theme parks, there are an array of experiences available for those who have a passion for dinosaurs.

And, have no worries. If you can’t make it to one of the experiences, grab some popcorn and choose a dinosaur movie to watch it in the comfort of your own home – beginning with Jurassic World!
