A Peek Inside the Garfield Park Conservatory in Indianapolis

A Peek Inside Garfield Conservatory

I love Indianapolis! There are so many amazing places to explore. One of my favorite places so far has been the Garfield Park Conservatory. This past summer I spent some time over there exploring it’s beauty along with snapping some images for their Photography Contest.

And, what do you know? I came in as a semi-finalist for two of my photos. I was so excited, but I must tell you that I never went through with the entire process of printing the photos, having them mounting, and taking them back over to Indianapolis.

The major reason for not following through was because it’s about a two-hour drive away from where we are located and I really couldn’t fit the time into my schedule during the time frame given. So, just knowing that I made it as a semi-finalist was okay with me.

Most of the photos in my post, I Loved the Conservatory, But Here’s What You Should Know focused on the outside of the Conservatory, but there was so much gorgeousness going on on the inside that I failed to show.

So, today, I’m giving you a peek into the inside of the Garfield Park Conservatory in Indianapolis. It has a 10,000 square foot tropical Conservatory in addition to a three-acre Sunken Garden. This hidden gem is located at 2345 Pagoda Drive in the Garfield Park neighborhood district.

Indoor Admission

While wandering the Sunken Gardens is free there is a $2 general admission fee for those wanting to take a self-guided tour through the Conservatory.

Hundreds of different plants from the world’s tropics can be found within. According to the Conservatory, it has a rain forest theme with a wide variety of plant species including palms, orchids, ferns, cacao, vanilla, bananas, and coffee.

What’s Inside?

In addition to the plant life, there is an adorable Waterfall Pond, as well as interesting information about a few species of reptiles and amphibians.

As I walked through, there were quite a bit of other guests of all ages walking through, as well. People were so mesmerized by the beauty of the many plants and flowers growing all around.

Final Thoughts

If you are high interested in plants and flowers and are in the Indianapolis area, I highly suggest giving Garfield Park Conservatory a visit. The Garfield Park is a 128-acre regional city park that was established in the late 19th century. It is actually the oldest city park in Indianapolis and is on the National Register of Historic Places.
