Amongst everything on your Fall Bucket List, cabin camping should definitely be one. Last week for our fall vacation, we spent a few days in Kentucky while our final vacation days were spent at Cherokee Landing Campground in Saulsbury, Tennessee.
I chose this location because it was in the Memphis area where I planned to take my boys to revisit some of my childhood favorites growing up.
Thousand Trails
This was our first experience at a Thousand Trails campground. Thousand Trails is a network of 81 campgrounds located in popular camping destinations throughout the United States and British Columbia, Canada and offers customers the best value in camping with a variety of membership options.

We aren’t members of the network, so it’s nice to know that each Thousand Trails campground caters to members and non-members alike, so you do not need to be a member to enjoy these campgrounds.
Amenities and Activities
Thousand Trails campgrounds are packed with varying amenities and activities such as swimming pools, basketball, bocce ball, boating, fishing, clubhouses, hiking and biking trails, tennis, volleyball, pickleball, mini golf, playgrounds and more.
However, since we chose off-peak season vacationing like we normally do, the pool was closed. That didn’t matter much for us because the boys enjoyed playing basketball, playing football together with each other, playing in the double hammock, and playing in the Clubhouse.
Creating Family Memories at Cherokee Landing
In addition to the activities and amenities provided on the campground, we created activities for ourselves, as well. We walked around and explored the campground, had lunch at the picnic table, laughed and talked on the screen porch, read books, and fired up the grill to make yummy veggies.
These are the moments that make life precious and the memories that I strive to create.
Cabins at Cherokee Landing
On most cabin camping occasions, we choose a basic or efficiency cabin. This time, however, we stayed in a cabin that sleeps 6 instead of 4 which offered us more room than we normally have.
Our cabin was one large room that included an enclosed full bath and screened porch. Linens are not included and are not available for rent. You must bring your own.
However, this particular stay included linens. The virtual tours provide a pretty accurate view of what the inside of our cabin looked like.
Our plans were to be there for the rest of the week and we wanted to make our cabin feel “home-like”. So, we hung string lights above the beds, brought fun emoji pillows, and fall paper-ware. Who wants to wash a lot of dishes on vacation?! Certainly, not me.
Other cabin amenities included the following:
- Full kitchen
- Conventional oven
- Coffeemaker
- Toaster
- Cookware
And, although, we do not have pets, pets are welcome for an additional fee.
Final Thoughts
There are people who make your day and there are people who make your life. Spending time with these little guys make my life. And, I am so happy I am their mom.
Since we are children for such a short amount of time during our lifetimes, I want to make sure that my boys are able to have a memorable childhood filled with moments like these. And, spending time at Cherokee Landing allowed us that opportunity.
So, if cabin camping is something that’s on your bucket list, check out Thousands Trails. But, if cabin camping isn’t for you, how about considering a yurt or tiny cottage?
