Fall Fun | Hidden Gems in Your Local Calendar of Events

Happy Friday!

What are your plans for the weekend? I am not too sure about ours just yet, besides enjoying some down time around the house and doing some at home, family Halloween stuff.

Check Your Local Calendar of Events

But if you are looking for something to do and not wanting to spend a ton of money, check out your local Calendar of Events. So, many times, I find awesome events to attend free of cost.

For example, do you remember when I took my son to his first baseball game at the University of Illinois? We had so much fun and it was free! And, I found it on the Calendar of Events from Chambana Moms.

In addition, to the baseball game, a few weeks ago, I found the Fall Family Fair at First Christian Church in Champaign, Illinois. It was a free, family-friendly event.

Fall Family Fair at First Christian Church

The event fair took place at First Christian Church located at 3601 South Staley Road in Champaign, Illinois from 4PM-PM. So, many families graced the event with their presence, including us!

Once a family parked and entered the fair, they were guided to a check-in tent, for a brief check-in and guessing game. I’m guessing there were about 300 sweet tarts in the case! They were so yummy looking!

Once a family checked-in, each child received a white bag for them to hold all the goodies they received from the games that they played. Families were then free to venture from tent to tent.

My boys were immediately excited once they saw the variety of games available to play!

Family Activities

Each tent held a different carnival game for children to enjoy. Some games included Pumpkin Ring Toss, Frog Fling, and Monster Take Down, just to name a few. Well, those were actually my favorites!

There was also a Cupcake Walk where the children won delicious looking, fall cupcakes that were boxed individually for them to take home and enjoy. I actually grabbed a bite of my son’s cupcake and I can tell you this. They were just as delicious tasting, as they were delicious looking!

Family Activities Continued

In addition, there was Pumpkin Painting, Basketball, Joyful Bubbles, Face Painting by a Lady Clown, (2) Bounce Houses, and a Bounce Slide with a drone hovering above (perhaps, videoing the event).

Aside from the carnival games and activities, the Petty Zoo had an enormous amount of traffic and lines. Everyone wanted a ride on one of those adorable, three, little ponies! But, ponies weren’t the only animals there! There were plenty bunnies and more!

Free & Open to the Public

One of the most amazing things about the Fall Family Fair at First Christian Church was that the event was not only open to the public, but free, as well – which gave the community a wonderful opportunity to get out of the house and have some good, wholesome, free fun!

The only exception was purchasing food from the food trucks on locations which had delicious eats, such as mini-donuts.

Final Thoughts

Finally, as a mother of two boys, in the midst of a busy football season and year-around school, it was such a delight to have a few hours to get away and enjoy the beginning of FUN-tober; as October is often referred to in Champaign-Urbana.

So, if you are looking for something fun to do and not pay a fortune, check out your local Calendar of Events!
