Las Vegas has so much to offer that it has become one of my most favorite cities of all. Regardless of what people think, Las Vegas isn’t just gambling or the glitz and glamour of the Las Vegas Strip. For example, did you know that there is Downtown Las Vegas (DLV), or as some may call it, Old Vegas?
Check out our Downtown Las Vegas Pop Culture Walking Tour!
That’s right, DLV is and was the historic and original site for Las Vegas gambling until the Las Vegas Strip became popular. Many historic buildings, cultural centers, and attractions are located DLV with one being the Fremont East Entertainment District which includes the Fremont Street Experience and Fremont East.
However, most of our time was spent on Fremont Street.
Fremont Street Experience
The Fremont East Entertainment District includes an “eclectic mix of bars, clubs and restaurants” centered amongst Las Vegas Boulevard and Fremont Street. The three-block renovation includes “pedestrian-friendly street redesign, landscaping and retro-looking neon signage,” according to Wikipedia.
Last year on our trip to Las Vegas, I wanted to be sure we were able to experience a variety of Las Vegas. So aside from spending time on the Strip, we also spent an evening DLV. We stayed at the popular D Casino and Hotel and experienced both, the Neon Museum and the Fremont East Entertainment District.
But, here’s the question.
Is the Fremont Street Experience kid-friendly?
Not exactly, but we went.
Don’t get me wrong some things were age-appropriate and entertaining for the boys such as some street dancers that my oldest son took an interest in, a Spider-Man on another corner for a paid photo opp, an arcade, and places to eat and shop.
But there was so much more for the adult crowd – if you know what I mean. Alcohol, music, gambling, and half-naked women for paid photo ops.
Can you spot them in the photo?
Aside from all of that, there was the popular SlotZilla zip-line; one of Fremont’s major attractions where you can zip line over Freemont Street. As much as we wanted to ride, we didn’t.
European Psychic Reading with Ms. Laurie
But, what I did do was have a palm reading done in a mysterious-looking, fortune-telling wagon for $10. As crazy as it may sound, Ms. Laurie was extremely accurate in knowing my character, personality, and what was going on in my life without me telling her anything – at all.
I left that wagon with chills crawling up and down my spine. And, as of today, I don’t think she has been wrong.
Aside from that and us strolling along being tourists, we didn’t do much else besides grab something to eat and play in the arcade.
Would I recommend Fremont Street Experience?
Yes, I sure would. I would just recommend that you go without the kiddos; just as I suggested with the Neon Museum.
Some things in Las Vegas are certainly kid-friendly, while others simply are not. Nevertheless, below are 5 Las Vegas Attractions that are.
