I have the wanderlust bug brewing in a crazy way! So, instead of jumping on the highway or airplane on a random impulse, I want to be sensible and recap and reminisce on some of my most favorite adventures, as well as some that were not so great beginning with Las Vegas, Nevada.
When I think about places that were both great and not so great, I think of my many trips to Las Vegas, Nevada. I absolutely love Las Vegas with a passion for so many different reasons such as their gorgeous casino hotels, fancy events, and restaurants.
Visiting in 2017 as a Family
But, here’s the thing. Each time that I have visited Las Vegas the experience was different. For example, when I went with my boys back in 2017, we had an overall amazing time with the exception of our visit to the Neon Museum.
The Neon Museum had been on my Travel Bucket List for such a long time and in 2017, I finally made it. Exciting right?
How about not! I included the visit as a part of a family adventure with my two boys, who were a lot younger at the time. During our visit to the museum, they were tired, hot and cranky, so I didn’t end up having a great time or the experience that I thought I would have.
I was a little upset, but learned a valuable lesson. Not every experience is meant for your children.
Visiting Las Vegas in 2018 for a Technology Exposition
On a separate trip to Las Vegas the following year, I went solo for work for a really big Technology Exposition held at Harrah’s Resort and Casino. While the trip ended up being a great trip, it definitely didn’t start that way.
As a matter of fact, everything went wrong as soon as I touched down in Las Vegas.
For starters, I had scheduled a ride from the airport to the hotel using the blue van known as Super Shuttle. I have used the service many times in the past, so I was confident with the service. So, I thought.
But to my surprise, things didn’t move as quickly as they had in the past. For whatever reason, it took at minimum an hour for my shuttle to come to take me to the hotel. So, I was already upset with the wait. Not only that, but Las Vegas is hot in April and I arrived in cozy, warm Midwest clothing.

Following that, I arrived at the hotel to check in, only to find out that our company credit card was not on file – meaning I had to wait to get in touch with administration at work to have everything authorized.
Let’s just say, I learned more than I needed to know about credit card processing during my wait time.

Being Stuck at the Charging Station
During this time, I could not get checked into my room, my phone was dead and the front desk staff refused to let me use their phone. Instead they sent me over to a corner of the hotel lobby that had a small charging station near the entrance.
If you can only imagine me tucked into this little corner trying to charge my phone at the charging station. After about 20 minutes of struggling in the corner with my luggage, a woman came out and explained that there was a more relaxing charging station on the other side of the lobby. Thank goodness for her!
The charging station was gorgeous. It was actually a charging bar for multiple people with the Las Vegas sign over top of it (see above).
Learn more about these charging stations at ECM Media.
After I got settled, relaxed a bit and was able to get a charge on my phone, I was able to get a hold of Administration to get everything worked out. After about four hours in the lobby mostly at the charging station, I was able to get checked into my room.
I tell you. That was such a horrible experience, but after that part of the trip, it was nothing short of amazing. Not only did I learn a lot about some new technology and apps, but in my free time, I was actually able to visit the Sugar Factory for the first time, as well as Seven Magic Mountains.
Final Thoughts
After all of the traveling that we have done, it amazes me when I look back over our experiences. Some great. Some are not so great, but for each experience I am forever grateful.
