I’m back from Las Vegas and definitely in need of some major self care with all of the hustle and bustle with the trip. With that in mind, I know a lot of people say that taking care of yourself is selfish. But, it’s not because it’s important to be in the best possible condition you can be in.
Try to remember that the only people who get angry when you start looking after yourself and setting boundaries are those who no longer benefit from you. So, don’t worry about their opinions, worry about you.
Knowing When To Take A Break
The first thing that I want to acknowledge is when to take a break. There are times where you will be at breaking point, and despite this you will continue on as if there is nothing in the world going on. While it is admirable, and while sometimes it can be beneficial to keep going, more often than not you need to stop and take a break. Right now, I need a break.
There is nothing wrong with taking a break and this is what you need to understand. Don’t worry about how many breaks other people are taking, they are not you. Don’t worry about what anyone else is doing at any given time, and instead focus on yourself.

Give Yourself Grace
Next, it’s important to give yourself grace. Life can be hard. I mean even everyday things can get difficult. For example, getting up can be hard and going to work can be even harder, but you’re still going to do them.
So remember to give yourself this grace without beating yourself up about it. You are doing your best in life, and there is nothing more that anyone else can ask of you.
When I think of this, I think of new and expecting parents because I saw quite a few in route home. It is often new parents that you find who don’t allow themselves grace. They feel as though they need to do everything on their own, make sure everything is running smoothly when in real life, this is a fairytale.
It doesn’t happen, and if it does, someone has run themselves rugged to do it. I promise you that the dishes in the sink are not worth your sanity.
Eating The Food That’s Bad For You
Next, is food. I ate a little bad while in Vegas. I mean, who doesn’t? Sometimes you just need to indulge in the things that you are told are bad for you. If you want to eat a whole bar of chocolate every now and then, do it.
Sometimes, this is what you need in order to feel better and then once you’re done, you can move on. But, if you don’t allow yourself to do the things that your body is telling you that you want, then you’re going to end up miserable. So just eat the cake and then move forward.
Taking A Day Away
Aside from all of this, sometimes, you just need a day away from all the things that are your life, just to clear your head. Give yourself this time away from work and from whatever else is stressing you out in life and I’m sure you will feel much better.
Looking After Your Health
The final thing I want to touch on is looking after your health overall. Be sure that you are looking after your overall health. And, I don’t mean beauty masks and rest, but also following up with your primary care providers regularly.
For example, if you have been to see hearing specialists and they have recommended that you stay away from really loud noises like the washing machine or live music, do it.
Get someone else to turn the washing machine on and go out for an hour or two. Do whatever it takes to keep your health in the best possible condition for as long as you can.
Final Thoughts
With all of this in mind, taking care of yourself doesn’t make you selfish, it is literally one of the things that you are meant to do. This is why self care is important. Everyone else is off taking care of themselves, so why can’t you?
