Unicorns are more than just mythical creatures. They symbolize magic, adventure, and fun. If you’re looking for a unique and exciting road trip experience, a unicorn-themed road trip might be just what you need.
In fact, I’m dedicating this magical unicorn-themed road trip to my dad. He collected hundreds of unicorns over the course of multiple years in beautiful glass cases. When I asked him why, he said all wealthy people have a collection of something, mine just happen to be unicorns.
Don’t forget to check out our visit to Unicorn World 2023!
Although he and his collection are gone, I still have the first unicorn that he gave me at about 18 and the last unicorn that he bought me in my mid-30’s.
With this in mind, I’m truly looking forward to this experience with my family, especially my little girl. From exploring unicorn-themed attractions to dressing completely magical, this journey is sure to create memories for you and your family that will last a lifetime.
Here’s how to plan your unicorn-themed road trip to Unicorn World
Choose Your Destination – Unicorn World, Indianapolis, Indiana
The first step in planning a unicorn-themed road trip is choosing your destination(s). Unicorn World currently has exhibits set up throughout the year all across the United States.
Yes, Unicorn World is a real thing.
For our trip, our destination is Unicorn World, Indianapolis, Indiana with a magical stop at the Enchanted Fairy Festival in Avon, Indiana. But, of course, yours can be whatever you choose.
Plan Your Route
Once you’ve decided on your destination, plan your route. Consider stopping at other unicorn-themed attractions along the way. Think of places that would be magical and dreamy.
For example, a few years back the Children’s Museum of Indianapolis offered a unicorn pop-up exhibit, which would have added to the fun of this adventure.
And, this year in May, The Central Indiana Enchanted Fairy Trail presents the Central Indiana Enchanted Fairy Festival which includes mermaids, fairies, unicorns, and all things magical.
But, please do not think you have to add another huge event to your road trip!
Consider smaller enhancements as well such as unicorn-flavored ice cream at a local ice cream shop or even creating your own unicorn sightings by bringing a few unicorn toys and balloons and stopping for photos along the way.

Pack Your Bags (Including Your Lunch Bag)
After deciding upon your route, pack your bags with unicorn-themed items like clothing, blankets, and toys (you can find inspiration on this unicorn toy list. You can also bring unicorn-themed snacks like unicorn cereal, unicorn popcorn, or unicorn fruit snacks to add to your cooler bag.
Bring Unicorn Magic on the Road
To make the journey even more magical, decorate your car with unicorn window clings, balloons, and beautiful pastel garland. You can easily find unicorn-themed items at a local dollar store or Amazon. In fact, I found quite a bit at our local Dollar Tree that I will be sharing in our actual road trip post.
Destination Unicorn World
Once you have arrived at Unicorn World, there’s nothing else left but to have fun and create some magical memories by going from exhibit to exhibit and enjoying all of the fun.
And, if you are on a budget, have no worries because there will be no reason to buy expensive souvenirs since you already brought along all the fun. In fact, if you have smaller children, you can create suspense or even give them a unicorn-themed item once you arrive, so that they aren’t asking for what’s there.
Consider unicorn toys, plush unicorns, unicorn crowns, unicorn mylar balloons, unicorn glow-in-the-dark wands, etc. All of which can be found at Dollar Tree saving you a ton of money during the actual event.
Bring a Camera, or Two!
Finally, do not forget to bring a camera to capture all the magical moments. Again, don’t forget to bring a camera to capture all the magical moments. Yes, you have your phone, but consider instant cameras, as well. In fact, I picked up a unicorn-themed photo album and photo frame from Dollar Tree to store all of the memories created.
Wrap Up Your Magical Journey
If your road trip was planned to be a one-day road trip, I’m sure everyone will be too tired to be stopping on the way back so enjoy the peace and quiet and bask in the gratitude of such a lovely time.
However, if you’re road trip includes overnight stays be sure to find the most magical place to spend the night. And, if that isn’t something that is possible – bring a unicorn blanket and pillow to cuddle up for a good night’s sleep.
