I’m so excited to get back to blogging a little more than I have been in the recent past. In my last, What I’m Doing Now post, I covered some summer content that you can expect to see throughout the summer weeks, as well as a Groove Life Rings review.
However in this post I’m covering a glimpse into what life has been like over the past few weeks. In this post, I hope you pick up a few tips such as lessons that can be learned with children, tests that you can take for fertility, where to get your summer swimsuits from and what summer waterproof cameras to have this summer.
Teen Lifeguard Training & Life Lessons
For starters, my oldest son, who is 15, just completed lifeguard training to become a lifeguard at a local aquatic center. When you are 15, you can work, but you have to have a work permit.
Since we homeschooled this year, we couldn’t get one from the area high school, instead we had to submit a series of documents and then have an interview with the State Board of Education. Everything worked out perfectly.
Going into the week, my son was really excited! He kept talking about how he was going to work all of these hours to make this money.
I never said much besides the fact that he could only work a certain number of hours as a minor on a work permit. I didn’t want to kill his dreams, as this would be his first job.
He worked diligently from 9-5 for three days to complete the course to become a certified lifeguard. By the end of the three days, he said, “I’m still a kid. I don’t want to work all those long hours”. (LOL)
So, we have come up with a relaxed schedule that will allow him to work 10 hours per week. Nothing drastic.
In addition to this, he had $40 starting the week off. I went grocery shopping and encouraged him to make lunch and take a few snacks, so that he would have something and not have to spend his money.
Well, on each of the three days, his new friend group went out to eat for lunch. By the end of the third day, he only had a few dollars left and said, “Mom, eating out is expensive. It took all of my money.” LOL.
With all of that being said, he has learned so many lessons about life. He’s learned how to earn money and how fast it can be spent if you are not mindful. He’s also learned how he was able to learn a skill and not just work a job. I’m so proud of him and so grateful that he’s learning these lessons now instead of later in life. Wouldn’t you agree?
Pre-Teen Swim Lessons
My youngest son is 10. Growing up he’s always been athletic. He’s played soccer, football and basketball. But, with the pandemic, he hasn’t been able to play any sports.
With this in mind, he’s gained some weight. He’s probably about 10 pounds heavier than he needs to be. It’s not a super huge deal right now, but I don’t want it to turn into a big deal. So, it’s best we handle things now and start getting him back active.
To do so, one of the things that were on a family bucket list last year was swim lessons. With the pandemic, those swim lessons got put on the backburner.
So, now that life is opening back up, it was the perfect activity to enroll him in. Not only will he be getting some physical activity, but he will be learning a lifelong skill. I’m so excited for him!
He started his class yesterday. It’s a small class of about 8 children. It’s so cute watching them learn together.
Water Aerobics, Weight Loss, Fashion and Fertility
While he’s taking his swim lessons, I’m only a few feet away in the same pool doing water aerobics. Yes, water aerobics.
Did you know that you can burn up to approximately 500 calories in a 45 minute session of water aerobics? This is going to be so good for me.
I’ve never done a group exercise class before, so this is new to me. Not only that, my weight has fluctuated over the years, so sometimes I’m confident in a swimsuit and other times I’m not.
Right now, my weight is heavier than usual because I’m still carrying the pregnancy weight of Aleigh. It makes me sad that I gained weight and went through all of the pregnancy and didn’t get to love on her and have her in our lives.
I’ve had two healthy pregnancies and don’t understand what happened. Because of this I just ordered a Modern Fertility Kit to have my hormones and eggs checked (for peace of mind). But, I will give a full review of that later in the month, once my results come back.
Anyway, with all of that said, doing outdoor water aerobics at the same time as my son’s swim lessons gives me time to peek in on his swim lessons and gives me the exercise that I need.
Additionally, being out in that sun and water has just been good for my soul. I was so happy leaving yesterday. My vibration was through the roof.
And, guess what? I didn’t feel bad in my swimsuit. The swimsuit that I wore was from Shein from last summer, but it is still being sold for about $18.
I can still fit the swimsuit, but some of my others from last year are a bit tighter than I would like, so I did order some nice one piece swimsuits and cover ups to wear to water aerobics and at the pool when we go as a family.
I also ordered one from Rue21. I’m looking forward to them being delivered because half of them have flowers and pink in them. I love pink, but also according to Who What Wear, pink is one of the five colors for an expensive looking summer wardrobe.
Anyway, I’ll be posting all of the swimsuits I wear on my Instagram stories and Water Aerobics Highlights. Feel free to follow and check the highlights for all of the swimsuits.
In the meantime, feel free to browse Rue21 and Shein. They have great swimsuits and are affordable.
Water Cameras to Have This Summer
Lastly, I don’t take my phone over by the pool, so I don’t have pool pictures right now to share, but I will in a few weeks. Psst. I’m sharing old ones right now.
Anyway, today, I’m ordering another Fuji Disposable Waterproof Camera. I bought one a few years back and my son and I had such a fun time with it. You can check out the review here, FujiFilm Quick Snap Waterproof Disposable Camera Review.
It was actually one of my most popular posts for years! People wanted to know if the camera worked and yes, it does. You can find these cameras online at Amazon or at Walmart.
The other drawback is that nowadays, developing costs more than it used to and it takes a while for your photos to come back. But, the outcome is definitely worth it.
Aside from this camera, I recently found out that Kodak has one as well called the New Kodak Weekend Underwater Disposable Camera Excellent Performance. It’s more expensive, but I’m willing to also give this one a try this summer since we will be at the pool most of the summer. I’ll buy it when we are done with the other and do a review on it, so that you know what our experience is.
Final Thoughts
Well, this post is extremely long, so I am going to end here. But, this is a glimpse into what life has been like over the past few weeks. I hope you picked up a few tips throughout the post, such as lessons that can be learned with children, tests that you can take for fertility, where to get your summer swimsuits from and what summer waterproof cameras to have this summer.
In the meantime, let me know which waterproof camera that you choose!
