We have taken a lot of nontraditional trips in cold weather and even snowy weather. But, the weather doesn’t necessarily take away from the attraction – as long as you dress well. Below I’ve listed three attractions to visit with kids, even if it’s cold out.
Highfield Discovery Garden, Cincinnati, OH
The Highfield Discovery Garden is located in one of the great parks of Hamilton County. Our primary reason for going was to see the giant treehouse, but were delighted by the smaller gardens and whimsical environment.
Some of our favorites included the Discovery Tree, the Trolley Garden with the running Thomas the Train and trolley, the Frog & Toad Garden, and the mushrooms. Overall, the Discovery Garden was beautiful even with it being winter and a lack of greenery.
Route 66 Association Hall of Fame & Museum, Pontiac, IL
The Route 66 Association of Illinois Hall of Fame and Museum features thousands of artifacts and memorabilia related to Route 66, also known as The Mother Road. I have a deep fascination for Route 66 and have been pieces my own experience together over the years by visiting various places on Route 66.
You can even read about us riding down Route 66 in Needles, California or lounging around the Historic Route 66 KOA campground in Eureka, Mo.
St. Louis Zoo, St. Louis, MO
Who would have thought you could actually enjoy the zoo on a cold afternoon? Well, we did! And, did you know that there is no cost for admission to the zoo, itself, however, some of the attractions within the zoo charge an admission price.
To avoid this, arrive within the first hour of the zoo opening for the admission fee to be waived AND park across the street instead of in the parking lot which charges $10. Read more about our adventure to the St. Louis Zoo here.
Final Thoughts
Just because the weather is a bit colder or cooler than we like, don’t avoid travel attractions. You can still have an enjoyable time, just plan and dress accordingly. And, if money is an issue, check out two ways you can make money this month… Option 1 and Option 2.
