3 Sweet and Quirky Midwest Travel Destinations

road trip

One thing I love to do is to research quirky places to visit; places that are a little unusual and appealing. For example, colorful restaurants with irresistible food and drinks such as at the Sugar Factory and breaktaking sites such as Seven Magic Mountains which can both be found in Nevada. But, since I have no plans of returning to Nevada anytime soon, I decided to share a list of 3 sweet and quirky Midwest travel destinations that you must visit at least once.

b.a Sweeties Candy Company, Cleveland, Ohio

The Sweeties Candy Company has been in business for over 68 years, serving the public with mounds of candy. The company is considered the be the largest candy store in North  America according to its website.

Their website also notes that there are “over 4,500 different items, in excess of 500,000 pounds with an average inventory value of $3,000,000.00!” In addition to the warehouse, there is also a Sweeties Soda Shoppe and Sweeties Golfland Park with 36 holes for families to enjoy while visiting.

Jelly Belly Factory, Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin

Another yummy and delicious place to visit is the Jelly Belly Factory in Wisconsin. My parents and I took the boys there in 2016 as a day trip. The factory offers a free factory tour giving you a glimpse into the world and history of the Jelly Belly jelly bean and its other candies along with a a free sample pack of Jelly Belly jelly beans.

But samples aren’t just limited to the pack that you receive after the train tour. No, your first stop in the Visitor Center is at the Sample Bar where you can try each and every flavor of Jelly Belly jelly beans. In addition, guests can continue with shopping and/or also relax and eat and the Snack Bar.

What I enjoy most about visiting is that it is always themed and they also offer a lot of activities on their grounds such as carnivals and a chance to interact with Mr. Jelly Belly, himself.

Donut Trail, Butler County, Ohio

The last luscious place on this list is the Butler County Donut Trail. 12 donut shops are located on an 80 mile trail throughout Butler County. Trail goers are encouraged to follow the Donut Trail map making stops at each donut shop and getting their passports stamped.

Once all stops have been conquered, Donut Trail t-shirts can be redeemed at the Butler County Visitors Bureau for completing the trail. How yummy and fun is that?!
