Heyyy there!
This evening, I’m interviewing one of my Floridan penpals, Jacqui from 6th Avenue Designs.
Good Morning, Jacqui, thank you for allowing me to briefly interview you. For starters, please tell me a little bit about yourself?
Hi There! Thanks for taking the time to interview me!
Well to start, I’m a wife and stay at home mom to 2 awesome kids. I was born and raised in Florida, and I have always loved crafting!
No matter where I was in life, crafting has always made me smile. I’m glad I got to make it my job and stay home to watch my children grow up.
That’s great you are able to stay home with your children! So, tell me about 6th Avenue on Etsy and how it came about?
6th Avenue Designs, funny enough, started as a “what if”. I had just left my desk job, rather abruptly actually, because my husband had found a great job that gave me the opportunity to stay home with our kids. Before then, I was working a LOT. Life was crazy, but I’ll save that for my autobiography 😉 Needless to say, I deserved a break!
Anyhow, I had been home for a few months and was looking for something to take up some of my spare time; I started hand painting coffee mugs. I made one in particular, my Paint Water mug, just for personal use. But for fun, I checked Etsy to see if there was anything out there like the mug I made. There was, and I said to myself “what if I put it up, and it doesn’t sell?” Then I said “what if I don’t, and I miss out on the opportunity…”
So that is where it all began.
I made a few hand painted mugs and small knick knacks, but I wasn’t getting much traffic.
That Paint Water mug, though? Best seller!
On Mother’s Day about a year ago, my grandmother gifted me a Cricut machine. I started making little decals for my sisters, because they loved anime but could never find anything they liked on the market. So I set forth making designs that were unique, customizable, and affordable for everyone. And that’s how 6th Avenue Designs was made!
Sounds awesome! Plus, I see you have great reviews! You, go-girl! So, is 6th Avenue solely an online shop? Or, is there a blog and social media attached to it?
The shop is solely online, but I do have an Instagram (@6thavedesigns) and a Facebook (@6thavenuedesigns) to keep my followers up to date on new items and shop news!
Thanks for that. Finally, what would you say is your ultimate goal for 6th Avenue Designs?
My ultimate goal for my shop, is just to see it thrive. I have a lot of competition in the little niche I’m in with vinyl decals. I’m just happy that people enjoy my designs and come back for more!
Thank you, Jacqui for taking time out of your busy day (and, our pen-palling) to complete this interview!
To conclude this post, I want to quickly share my favorite decals from 6th Avenue Designs, as well as my reasons why.
Style Alert!
