Spring is here and picnics are in the air!
Along with my love for the outdoors and beautiful weather, I have a thing for picnics. So, today’s post is a quick recap of our Spring 2014 Family Picnic and how you can plan your own perfect picnic in 7 easy steps.
Our Spring 2014 Family Picnic
A few years back, I decided that I wanted to have a really cute, family picnic. I was so excited! I spent countless hours searching Pinterest trying to find the perfect colors, theme, accessories, and foods that would make a delightful menu.
I even thought about what the boys would wear so that our pictures would be totally frame-worthy!
Which they were and are.
Eventually, I settled on a simple green and turquoise theme because most of those colors were already throughout our home. Therefore, I didn’t have to do a lot of shopping outside of food, an adorable lemonade dispenser, and disposable goods that I picked up from Dollar Tree.
Everything came together perfectly. The weather was beautiful, the picnic was themed, the boys were themed, the menu was simple, yet yummy, we played golf, and captured our moments.
It was all picnic perfect! #PicnicPerfect
7 Easy Steps to a Perfect Picnic
Step 1 – Decide on your location.
Think of a comfortable spot that is easy to locate, but also where you can decorate and feel comfortable. The last thing you want to do is to plan the perfect picnic, but your guests can’t find it.
Step 2 – Determine Guests
Decide on how many people you will be inviting along with any special accommodations.
We kept it simple and went as a family.
Step 3 – Food
As you are considering food and creating your menu, keep in mind your budget. You can choose something simple like sandwiches or something fancy like lobster rolls if you’re fine with spending a tad more.
Additionally, you will want to consider how you will transport your items and how each item will stay hot or cold.
Step 4 – Aesthetics
Now, here’s the fun part! Decide on your theme and pretties.
If you are up for spending a ton, go ahead and go shopping. However, if you are on a tight budget, consider shopping your home first before running out and spending a fortune.
For us, I was easily able to incorporate some pillows, blankets, and a crate we already had by simply shopping our home.
In addition to this, I created a fun printable and put it in a plastic frame from Dollar Tree, But, now that Dollar Tree has amazing, canvas-like prints.
Why not save yourself some time and just grab a few from Dollar Tree?
Step 5 – Plan Your Activities
Decide what activities you will do aside from chatting and eating. Will you be playing soccer, flying kites, or blowing bubbles?
We played golf and brought out the golf clubs and Calloway golf balls.
Step 6 – Necessities
Don’t forget all the things you REALLY need such as plates, forks, knives, matches, trash bags, etc.
Three of my favorite places to shop for cute picnic items are Dollar Tree, Target, and Wal-Mart. In each store, I have found the cutest and most whimsical decor, drink dispensers, napkins, cups, and plates.
Step 7 – Create Lasting Memories
Finally, keep in mind you are having this picnic to enjoy quality time together. So, why not get creative and capture the moments.
Why not consider a fun toy camera such as a novelty Split Camera, Fuji Disposable Waterproof Camera, or Polaroid Snap?
We’ve used them all and love them! Or, why not shoot in film with a 35mm or disposable camera?
