Challenger International Soccer Camp 2021

For the past four years my boys have been participating in the Challenger International Soccer Camp. Did you know that the Challenger International Soccer Camps are the most popular soccer camp in the United States with an innovative curriculum that develops skills, speed, and confidence in players ages 3-18.

Some years back, when I heard about the camp, I wanted both of my boys to participate – and, over the past few years they have both participated each summer.

Dodds Park Soccer Field, Champaign, IL

This year’s camp was at Dodds Park Soccer Field in Champaign. This was our second year registered for a camp in Champaign. Champaign parks are so nice.

While my youngest son was still able to learn amazing soccer fundamentals to add to his athletic tool kit, it just had to be done in a small group with precautionary measures in place.

For example, upon checking in, participants had to have their temperature checked and wear a mask. However once they were on the playing field, it was up to them if they wore their mask or not. In addition to this, each participant was spaced out six feet apart by bright yellow cones.

What to Expect at the Challenger Sports British Soccer Camp

Aside from COVID, here is what you can typically expect. Upon arrival and departure, campers are to be signed in by their parent(s). However,  if someone other than that parent will be picking up the child(ren) an authorization release form must be submitted on the first day. I really appreciate the safety precautions.

On the first day, after signing in, campers receive their balls according to their age during the time of registration to make sure each camper has their respective size ball. Once everyone has their ball, training and drills begin.

This particular camp was a full day and week camp. Most camps end with a closing ceremony.

Weather Precautions and What to Bring

Throughout each day, campers receive several water breaks to stay hydrated with the increased summer temperatures. It is important to be mindful and bring sunscreen, bug repellent, and plenty of water for your children during the high temperatures.

Also, be sure that your child has proper soccer equipment such as cleats and shinguards.

Virtual Camps

Lastly, it’s important to share with you that there are still many virtual opportunities available with Challenge Sports. While Challenger Sports has a physical program in almost every US market, the option may not be available right now. So, if in person is not an option, you can still learn the fundamentals comfortably and safely from the comfort of your own backyard.
