Keeping your children safe, happy and healthy are priorities for most parents. But it is also essential to spend time with them outside of the usual routine of care. As well as teaching your children the ways of life, you can learn all sorts of things from them, too. Spending time together will bring parent and child closer together and build a stronger bond, so read on for some quality time inspiration.
Visit Libraries and Museums
For children, the world of books, history and art can encourage their imagination and offer a hands-on learning solution. Plus, public libraries and museums are often free to enter and browse through. A fun library activity could be to choose a book the other would like and sit down together and read.
Walk in National Parks and Gardens
This idea is fantastic for children that have plenty of energy. National parks and gardens offer wide-open spaces with different routes to follow, making them a source of adventure. For teenage children, walking can break down communication barriers as the mind and body are engaged, and there is less opportunity for distraction.

Teach Them Life Skills
Children often grow up gaining knowledge from school subjects to pass exams but are not adequately prepared for real-life scenarios. Spend time together by teaching them practical life skills such as about taxes, how to get a reverse mortgage for seniors, and how to save money. They will be grateful in the long run for the support you provide now.
Share Dinner Time
Granted that many families sit down to eat meals together, but for those that don’t – having at least one weekly dinner time with your children can do a world of good. For younger children, they need to see their parents eating nutritious foods like fruit and vegetables as it will encourage them to do the same. Also, try to refrain from watching the television while eating to encourage conversation with your kids.
Do the Chores Together
Doing chores may sound like a boring way to spend quality time, but you can make it fun with a positive attitude. If your children are old enough to do chores, you could set a couple of hours over the weekend where you all muck in together. Perhaps you do the hoovering while they do the dusting with some tunes on in the background. Accomplishing tasks together will generate mutual respect.

Do Yoga Together
Yoga can either be a mini workout or a wind-down exercise before bed. It can help with your children’s coordination and motor skills while encouraging mindful awareness. It can build self-trust with balancing poses and also build strength. Doing yoga together is a fun and stress-reducing activity.
Do Something Your Child Enjoys
Asking your child what activity they would like to do will make them feel seen and heard. Plus, they will have a lot of fun doing it. For younger children, regular playtime with their parents will benefit them tremendously.
Final Thoughts
Whichever activity you choose to do with your child, just make sure that you are giving them your undivided attention at the time and showing them love and kindness.
