Self-Improvement Summer Activities

Feeling lost for hobbies and activities this summer? You’re not alone. Right now, many of us are feeling like we’ve exhausted the activities that we usually enjoy and are looking for something new that will keep us occupied. For example, my mom and I tried a flower meadow adventure for the first time recently.

But when choosing a new activity to get involved in, why not take this opportunity to choose something that will be good for your overall health and well-being, or personal development?

With this in mind, here are a few options that you may enjoy, especially as a first-timer!

Gardening

Believe it or not, gardening is actually great for your overall health and well-being, and what better time of year to get started than summer? During the summer months, the weather tends to be better and the temperature is more enjoyable, giving you plenty of opportunities to get outdoors and spend time in your garden without having to face harsh elements.

Take a look at the space you have available to you and determine what you’d like to do with it. This could range from neatening up the lawn with a mower and strimmer to digging flower beds, planting hanging baskets, potting plants, or setting up a bird feeding table. The list of potential goes on.

As well as being good for your physical well-being, from getting out and about, gardening is good for your mental and emotional well-being, as well. It allows you some time to truly disconnect from your day-to-day routine and focus on something relaxing instead.

A Retreat

If you want a full disconnect from your usual routine, why not consider a retreat? When you head to a retreat, you will find yourself in a different, calming environment, engaging with others with similar interests through fun activities.

You can step away from the workplace and other day-to-day responsibilities to allow yourself time, peace, quiet, and a general break. There are a whole host of retreats out there to choose from, ranging from a Christian women’s retreat center to yoga retreats, meditation retreats, wellness centers, and more.

In fact, several years ago, my mom and I would attend a Christian women’s retreat for a weekend each summer. Sadly, COVID changed a lot of things.

Picking Up a Skill

There are countless life skills out there that could really benefit you on a day-to-day, or at least occasional, basis. The best to pursue will depend on what interests you, what skillsets will benefit you, and what you can see yourself genuinely committing to.

Examples include learning a new language, picking up an instrument, learning an art or craft, improving your swimming, and a whole range of other activities.

For ideas, look for local clubs or classes in your area and you’re bound to find something that is convenient to get to but also endows you with some sort of perk.

Support

A lot of people need a lot of support right now. Wouldn’t you agree? We’ve just experienced a pandemic and many of us are currently going through a cost-of-living crisis. You could find yourself helping others by providing your support, whether that’s lending a helping hand, listening to someone, or something else all together.

Final Thoughts

While this list is small, it’s a great way to generate some ideas that you would like to consider, whether you are alone, or with other. Either way, hopefully, the suggestions above will help you in your mission to improve yourself and your current skillsets during the summer months.
