Last month I shared our Autumn Kitchen Occasions Bin, or what is known as a Kitchen Occasions Bin on Instagram. #occasionsbin
It was a big hit around the house because it was fun, festive and cut down on dish washing. Overall, it brought us joy. So, I couldn’t wait to create another occasions bin and post the details with hopes of inspiring others to do the same.
Again, feel free to get as creative as you want. I have chosen a small area by our stove and on top of our wine cooler that has become the dedicated space for the occasions bin. It’s just enough space to decorate without feeling overwhelming.
In addition to this, it is a small space, so I don’t have to spend a lot of money to make it festive. A quick trip to the Dollar Tree and about $10 does the trick. I promise.
Creating these occasions bins are quite easy, so below are a few tips to help you to create your own.
Make a List & Budget
First, make a list of what you would like to add to your basket. For example, would you like to add straws, paper plates, bowls and/or cups and candy? Make a quick list, as well as a budget.
For example, for our Halloween basket, I knew I only wanted to spend $10. I knew I wanted straws, plates, cups, and napkins. After I got those things, I spent what was left on extras such as a few packs of candy and treat cups.
From there, I looked around the house for anything else Halloween related that would work. I ended up finding a Current Mood plastic wine glass from last Halloween. This ended up being perfect for holding some lollipops.
I used the same method in creating our Autumn bin, as well as our Christmas bin.
Shop Your House
With this idea in mind, shop your house after you make your list. I always tell people, shop what you have first, and then you can buy anything else that you need.
While you are shopping your house, grab a bin or basket that you have around your home and fill it with your items. If you have other festive items in your kitchen, add them, too.

Keep Your Basket All Month Long
Last month, I actually restocked our bin once our twice with some additional paper plates and napkins. However, once the week of Thanksgiving came, I left it alone. Once we were out, we were out because I knew that I would be creating one for December shortly.
If leaving yours up for the month is too long, consider setting it up prior to the holiday or special occasion. That way, when it’s gone, it’s gone and you can put everything away.
What’s in Our Basket?
This month, our goodies came from a number of places including Home Goods, TJ Maxx, Dollar Tree, Tuesday Morning, and Target. I love decorating for Christmas, so I did a bit more for this one than I did for October and November.
For this month, I also kept the tiered $5 tray from Target (#TargetFinds).
Final Thoughts
Next month, I won’t be making an occasions bin. However, you better believe that for February there will be one filled with lots of pink, red, white and hearts.
I truly love this idea and will be incorporating it into our kitchen for most months, if not all. I honestly believe that these can be put together in under 10 minutes for less than $10.
If you decide to make one, I’d love to see it. Tag me on Instagram or shoot me an email at (brennon at justbrennonblog dot com).
