In December 2019, I made a promise to myself to change my life on a number of different levels. With that being said, if you know anything about change, you know that change can create stress. And, one of the best ways to combat stress is self care.
As I decided to change my life, I knew that self care would be truly important as I trusted the process and moved through it.
So, aside from everyday acts of self care that I have previously written about, there were two experiences that I wanted to participate in that were a bit out of the ordinary for me. These two experiences included acupressure and relaxing in a salt lounge.
In today’s post, I’m giving you a few details about acupressure and unboxing this gorgeous, lavender acupressure mat by Dosha Mat.
What is the Acupressure Dosha Mat?
If you are unfamiliar with acupressure and acupressure mats, know that acupressure is an ancient Ayurvedic treatment which is similar to massage, acupuncture, and reflexology. It works by massaging and stimulating key points on the body to promote deep relaxation and healing.
Unboxing the Dosha Mat
Because this was my first experience with acupressure and an acupressure mat, I did not know what to fully expect. When the package arrived, it came in a nice sized box with instructions printed on the outside of the box.
Eco-Friendly & Charitable
I thought this was a rather neat idea! Not only does the label welcome you to their community, but it also prompts you to visit the online page to get you started with your new mat instead of including a physical guide; all in an effort to save trees. I love it!
In addition to saving trees, the Dosha Mat is 100% eco-friendly and carefully handmade using the highest-quality, hypoallergenic natural linen. Each mat also contains a removable cushion made of 100% natural coconut fiber.
And if that’s not enough, Dosha Mat donates 15% of their profits to charities that provide yoga and other exercise programs to youth in need.
How to Use
Now, that you’ve learned a bit more about the company and acupressure, let’s discuss how to use the acupressure mat and the benefits.
For starters, this mat can be used in a number of different ways depending on the result that you are after. For example, if you want to reduce foot pain and soreness, rest your feet on the mat or stand on the mat.
When I tried this last week, I knew that this was an acquired feeling to get used to. I was not able to stand straight up on the mat without socks on. This is a process that will indeed take time.
So, instead of focusing on my feet, I decided to focus on my back since I had been having some backaches.
When I began, I started with my shirt on and laying down on my back in bed. With my shirt on, I could not feel all of the acupressure points, so I removed my shirt and whew, what a difference that made.

Acupressure Points
Speaking of acupressure points. Each acupressure mat has a total of 190 acupressure lotus flowers. Each of the lotus flowers has 25 acupressure points, for a total of 4,750 acupressure points per Dosha Mat.
Removing my shirt to relax and rest was very therapeutic. I was able to remain like that for about a half an hour. I have continued this most days since having the mat. When I am not in bed using it, I am laying on the floor as it gives better support than the bed.
Benefits of Using Dosha Mat
Aside from reducing pain and soreness, there are a number of other benefits which include the following, just to name a few.
- Reduction of ?stress and anxiety
- Reduction of insomnia and improved sleep
- Weight-loss through the lowering of cortisol levels
- Increased circulation and blood flow
- Rejuvenation of the skin
- Improved digestion
- Reduction in the appearance of cellulite
Final Thoughts
In the two weeks that I have had my Dosha Mat, I have primarily been using it on my back to simply rest and relax. I’ve found it to be great for meditating and relaxing to set your intentions. And, as a Reiki practitioner, I believe this assists in balancing your chakras along with meditation.
Aside from this, my goal is to incorporate using it on my feet more, as well as rotating my hips and thighs on it to help reduce the appearance of cellulite and rejuvenate my skin.
