Water Based Get Aways For Your Bucket List

When we travel the world, we tend to focus on mostly land based activities. This makes sense. After all, we’re mostly land based creatures! We browse travel sites prioritizing beaches, local cafes and restaurants, and museums or other attractions in our search.

But it’s important to bear in mind that the open ocean holds so much potential for the avid adventurer too! You don’t have to stick to dry land to have fun! There are so many different activities that you can try out on the waves! Here are just a few to consider adding to your bucket list.

Sailing

If you fancy heading out to sea without necessarily having to get wet or rely on strong swimming skills, sailing might be the best option for you. While sailing allows you to feel the sea breeze run through your hair and to take the fresh, sea air into your lungs, you are safe and sound on board a reliable mode of transport.

Take a look at G Adventures for some inspiration. As you can see, you can find some of the most secluded and exclusive spots by sailing about and exploring unknown landscapes rather than going everywhere by foot or car. Just make sure that the company you book with is reliable and has all of the essential safety equipment on board!

Snorkelling

Another great water based activity for beginners is snorkelling. Most of the time, people opt to snorkel reefs, which are relatively shallow, and seeing as you need to stay close to the surface of the water for your snorkel to poke out of the top and supply you with air, you can wear a life jacket too!

So, try it out!

You’ll get to spend time in the sea at the same time as viewing some beautiful sea life and corals.

Diving

Now, people tend to group snorkeling and scuba diving together when it comes to water based activities. But when it comes down to it, they are extremely different activities!

Sure, diving may run on a similar concept to snorkelling – you spend extending periods of time looking at what lies beneath the water’s surface. But it does provide you with an entirely different experience of underwater life. Diving allows you to reach lower depths, as you are not bound to the surface with the need to come up for breath.

Instead, an air tank allows you to stay submerged for longer periods of time, freeing you to explore a vaster area. Sure, it may be a little more difficult than snorkelling, but with the correct equipment, instructor, and supervisor, it should go swimmingly!
