Beach Picnic Shopping Haul at Five Below & Target!

If you were able to check out yesterday’s post, I’m In! 30 Day Blogging Challenge, I explained that I wanted to bring some fun and fresh new posts to the blog. So, I couldn’t wait to share with you a small beach picnic haul from Five Below and Target!

Although the weather is still pretty cold and crappy, I have faith that by next week, we will see some higher temperatures. Keeping the faith alive, I did a fun after-work haul at Five Below and Target to grab some items to create a fun picnic on the beach with the boys this month.

Initially, I wanted a real picnic basket, and still do. But, after searching all last week with no real success, I decided that I would find some colorful items that would blend in with the cooler bag by Igloo that we purchased from Amazon for the Indy 500 Crown Royal Armed Forces Qualifying Race a few years back.

It’s a nice cooler bag, so we only use it occasionally. We typically reach for the pink Igloo Island Breeze cooler that’s sturdy and has been all across the United States with us. But, on our upcoming adventure, I wanted some nicer things, hence me making some special shopping hauls just for this trip.

Well, enough with all of that jabber. Let’s get into what I was able to find at Five Below and Target that ended up being a great fit with our Igloo Marine black and white cooler bag.

Five Below

First, upon walking into Five Below, I immediately spotted the decorative picnic pillows and blankets hanging on the wall. I wasn’t sure at first if it was what I wanted. But, then I saw the black tassels hanging from the pillows and knew it would make a great color combination with the cooler. I was pretty excited to see both, the picnic blanket and pillow. Both were only $5 each.

From there, I grew pretty excited and wanted to have a look at the games. I knew I wanted Tumbling Towers aka Jenga, as I saved that in one of my Pinterest pins. So, my eyes were wide open for it. And, what do you know? Easily spotted.

From there, I thought a huge Checkers game would be fun. Usually, I get these at Dollar Tree. But, since I was at Five Below, I wanted to of course check there because they would probably be bigger. At first glance, I spotted a large Chess set and grew sad thinking they only had Chess. As I moved some of the boxes around, what do you know? I found the Checkers set. Score!

Other Things

The final thing that I had in mind was a small bubble machine. I absolutely love having a bubble machine and kites on the beach. In fact, you can check out our visit to Cypress Beach in Tampa, Florida. We had the bubble machine, kites, and all.

Luckily, they had plenty of bubble machines, but I didn’t know that I necessarily wanted to spend $5 on a bubble machine when I am used to grabbing one from Dollar Tree, along with the kites for $1 – well, $1.25 now.

So, I paused on those purchases and decided to wait and have a peek on my next Dollar Tree run.

Frugal sisters, UNITE!

Target

After leaving Five Below, I decided to drop into Target and have a stroll through their Dollar Spot. I was looking for anything that would compliment the picnic theme. And, what do you know? I found another pillow, very similar to the one from Five Below. This one, however, was black and white with black tassels, and only $5 as well.

Lastly, once I got home, I pulled out the two kites that I picked up from Dollar Tree for the boy’s Spring Break last month that we didn’t get to use due to the weather. So, hopefully, the coming weekends are a whole lot nicer.

Final Thoughts

Well, there you have it! A fun and fresh haul for our upcoming beach picnic from Five Below and Target. What are your thoughts on this color combination for a fun beach picnic? A little different, I know.

P.S. If you aren’t able to make it to Five Below or Target, or if the items are sold out online, I’ve linked some similar items from Amazon using my affiliate links.
