With the new year upon us, so many people are thinking about their New Year resolutions, vision boards, and goal setting, including me. Setting goals is one of the most significant contributors to success. Without goals, there is a lack of direction and we can literally end up anywhere, and it may not be where we want to be.

With this in mind, it’s important to create some practical goals, as well as some goals that will scare the hell out of you. This is where the magic happens. As you venture out on your personal life journey to pursue the goals that you have set for yourself, you’ll embark upon new levels of yourself that you didn’t even know existed. And, not only will you be reaching your goals, but you’ll be becoming an even better version of yourself along the way.

Now, that a bit of that has been covered, let’s check out a few goal-setting strategies that can help you along.

Tips on Choosing Goals

When thinking about goal setting, it’s essential to consider which areas you would like to work on in your life. Sometimes people work on multiple areas at once, while others stick to just one area. Whichever area of life you choose to work on, it’s up to you.

In the past, I have done it in multiple ways. For example, one year, I chose to simply work on my finances and secure a higher-paying and more fulfilling position. This worked out well for me.

In other years, I have focused on other areas of life such as travel goals and weight loss. There is no right or wrong way to work on your goals, you simply have to choose goals that are personal to you and that you want to work on.

For example, while I may want to work on weight loss and travel goals,  my younger brother may want to work on finding travel nursing jobs, find one here – which has become his career goal. In fact, you can read all about him and his nursing goals in this post, Nursing Motivation, You’re My Hero

Either way, choose goals that are passionate to you and will help you become a better version of yourself.

Write Down Your Goal

After you have decided which areas of life you would like to improve and work on, it’s important to write them down. There is scientific evidence all across the internet that explains how much more successful you will be with your goals if you write them down. I guess you could say, writing them down makes them more of a statement of intent than an idea.

Things start to get real at that point because you can see your goals in front of you and they are no longer just ideas floating around in your head.

Create Steps

And with them written down in front of you, you can now begin to make and take actionable steps to achieve your goals. This means that you have to break the goal down into achieving bite-sized chunks. Think of it as taking one small step per day to reach your goal by the end of the year or your personal targeted date.

While these are just a few goal-setting strategies, there are so many more. For example, you could hop on over and learn how I create my vision board every year for vision board planning tips, or trek on over and learn how I created my Lifebook to help me achieve my life goals.
